Maybe I'm drinking the kool-aid, but on the eve of the Celtics' first game, I had a vision of how this team might win 50 games.
The Isiah Thomas/Amir Johnson pick-and-roll with Kelly Olynyk spacing the floor could be devestating. Dotting the floor with more shooting (some combination of Jonas Jerebko and RJ Hunter/James Young) opens things up even more. This lineup could produce some real offense if everyone plays their role smart every night.
And then I realize: That's their second unit! The starters will include Marcus Smart, Avery Bradley, and Jae Crowder who could form a juggernaut perimeter defense. David Lee is still a question mark for me and Tyler Zeller probably tops out as good-but-not-great at most aspects of them game but as long as he's that and we get something from Lee, the Celtics could go a long way taking teams out of any kind of rhythm early and then blitzing second units with their best offense.
And the wild-card: Jared Sullinger is probably the team's best rebounder and will be playing for a new contract. Maybe he butts his way into the lineup with solid play.
I'm not saying I think the team will win 50 games (I'm pegging them for 44-45) but if things broke right for them, I could see a playoff berth with home court in the first round.
Let's go, Celtics!
