I'm not sure Embiid will ever play more than a few years.

+1

Sullinger has more value because is a proven commodity just needs to shore up some personal habits.  Not listening to your team and producing vs. not listening to the medical staff and staying permahurt, I would take the former.

Embiid.....but he owes Zydrunas Ilgauskas a lot for that.

It's just that when you think of Embiid you sorta do word association with Big Z, Bill Walton, and Yao

When you think of Sully you think of guys that ate themselves out of the league

unfortunately it doesn't seem like embiid will ever play. I mean best case scenario right now he plays in 2016-2017 for the first time and the team has to decide before ever seeing him play if they want to pick up his qualifying offer? the fact the guy wanted to party in vegas and went against doctors after not playing a year says a lot to me.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Ummm I don't get it...

Center who has franchise potential, but squandered by going against doctor and organization's warning, and pushed another season back for himself... Sounds like a Bynum situation, considering the fact hes been completely resilient in denying his teams best wishes.

Sullinger may be overweight, but at least he can average 14/8.

Embiid? 0/0

I think every team is really good at deluding themselves into thinking "I can turn this guy around" even when all of the evidence points to that player being a lost cause. I don't think Embiid is 100% lost but given that he's never played a second of NBA basketball and has a host of reported character issues, he's close to it. But because of the potential he flashed in his short time in college, I think you could get more for him in a fire sale than you could get for Sully.

If we don't get any good trade offers during the season for a big, perhaps it would have been better to have Embiid in a suit than Sully on the bench.

I'm still hoping Sully will break out this season, but my hopes aren't that high.

Sully may be fat

But at least he is serviceable ...on the court .....more than can be said for the other fat player

There lies the key to this conundrum.

There's no Bynum-like factors here. His brother died in Africa in a car crash, right before he was going to come over and live with Embid in the USA and Embid had a hard time handling it.

Embid literally has the athletic ability and talent to become a hall of fame player. After Ilgauskas had the same surgery he was completely fine and that was after taking almost 2 years out.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

The difference is, if Embiid ever did get healthy, he could be a superstar.

There is zero change of Sully ever being a superstar, and the change of him eve being an All-Star is pretty slim.

Both guys have issues that would potentially scare off other teams, but teams are always going to be more willing to take a chance on guys with star potential.

Just look at Oden, Bynym, Brandon Roy, Grant Hill, Penny Hardaway.  Despite chronic injury risk, somehow those guys always managed to find SOMEBODY willing to take a chance on them.

Problem with Sully's trade value is his impending FA, aside from whatever perception a team may have of his personality and skills.

But he's still quite the young kid, so could be one way or another.

I'm not sure how much trade value Embiid has with his setbacks. Too much of a risk for a player who not only has questions about health as big as he has, but questions about whether he can actually play at a competent level in the NBA at all. It's hard enough that he's a player that lacks a lot of experience and now with this amount of time off the floor is not helping matters at all.

LOL...

As a Sixers fan that's totally fair haha. But my thing is this, Sully doesn't do anything great and is pending a huge payday because the NBA has a Billion dollars of cap space.

For the 8 to 10 teams that can at least think they have a shot to win it all, Sully is far more valuable.  For the rest, it's Embiid.  It's the difference between people who have money to invest and people who only have a few bucks for a lottery ticket.
