Personally I'd love to take a chance on this kid.  Celtics trying to make a trade and looking like it won't be able to just trade Perry Jones.  So my question would it be worth trying to trade two players such as Perry Jones and Kelly Olynyk or Evan Turner even though I rather keep him, to trade for a 1st or 2nd rounder.  Then having the roster room to sign Robert Upshaw.  He's a completely shot in the dark, but could be a diamond in the rough and what the Celtics have been searching for, a true rim protector.  Just wanted to see what people would think and if I'm the only one thinking this could be worth a shot.

I read somewhere on a Laker blog .....so just here say .......that he'd got in trouble with team over breaking rules or partying somewhere it wasn't supposed to be .  Anyways , it's been several weeks ago I read this .....he was in the dog house then.....

I suspect drugs have to larger grip on his life .

Hilarious!! People were calling for Upshaw to be the 16th pick of the Celtics, but he went undrafted. Then he is signed as a free agent to the Lakers and can't even make that current joke of a team and yet, people still think we should jettison players to try to sign this guy.

What is it exactly that you see in Upshaw that 30 NBA GMs didn't see at draft time and who the Lakers GM didn't see after having him all preseason and in every practice since camp opened?

There's already a thread on this.  The conclusion from that thread is that it's time to move on.

I second this.  I can't believe how obsessed some people are with this guy.  If he plays more than 48 total minutes in his NBA career I'll be very surprised.  He has a ton of red flags, and on top of that only has marginal NBA talent.  Please let him vanish into the sunset until he at least provides a shred of evidence that he can be a successful pro.

One (really bad) bad apple can spoil the whole bushel. At least, that's what the old adage claims. I tend to agree.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
the Lakers signed him to their D League team after he was cut from the NBA team...so they haven't completely given up on him.
When I watched him in preseason he looked really raw. A few years learning the game in the D League would be great for him.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

which would further emphasize the point that if he does indeed need a few years in D league to show anything then all those clamoring to grab this guy at 16 because he was either so skilled or worried other teams would grab that 'talent' really need to go back and question their talent evaluation skills.

what? you are asking that cb posters become introspective and reflective?

nay! nay I say! rather, but to live in the rank sweat of an enseamèd bed, stewed in corruption, honeying and making love  (and preposterous predictions) over the nasty sty.  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

He clearly has some issues in his life he needs to work out, and on the court his conditioning is lightyears away from being fit for the NBA, it's atrocious, even for a rookie. Likely a Lakers D-League project, if he plays well and gets it together, some team will pick him up.

  • Celtic's only raise championship Banners
I was one of the posters that wanted the celtics to take him. I really wanted the Celtics TO WANT to take him, even at 16(this was only right before the draft)...but only if we traded up to get Myles Turner. I do admit I did not think he would ever go undrafted....really never thought that, especially with the Hassan Whiteside pick up by Miami and the comparisons.
But I also admitted to not knowing what really was going on and what happened. 7' guys that have 9'5'' standing reach and 7'7'' wingspans do not grow on trees and deserve an extra look from everyone, especially teams that have a hole at center. But the fact is he has extraordinary length and if he chooses to take or do things that effectively put him to sleep and give him a clouded/foggy outlook, well he is not talented enough to do play in the NBA and do both.

In my defense Karl Towns was the one who I wanted all year. Then when we started winning and he started rising I valued Myles Turner as an undervalued prospect that had chosen the wrong team and had a pretty good chance at correcting his hip issue. I basically ended each of my posts with:
DRAFT KARL TOWNS then DRAFT MYLES TURNER.
Actually many people(scouts/gm's) did not like Towns because of his knees and thought he lacked athleticism to play in the NBA and would wear down. Scouts and Gm's were also afraid of Myles Turner and his knees, hips, and awkward running.

I think Towns and Turner have been playing very well and I only wish that one of them were on our team. It literally pains me to know how close we were to missing the playoffs and getting Turner. I also thought that Dakari and some of the other bigs on UK could  keep Towns more hidden, but I was wrong and Towns really showed out the older and bigger guys.....but the worst is missing out on Turner and seeing the Pacers get him, and Winslow going to Miami. We played hard and fought and the teams that have superstars get the better pick because we barely beat them out for the playoffs. If we had a franchise player or players I would be happy but we don't and that is what also shapes my view and puts me in the minority of fans that want to essentially tank.
