So I saw some Houston writer suggest something like Lee, Zeller, and a first for Dwight.

As long as that pick wasn't one of the Brooklyn picks, you'd almost have to make that deal if Howard promised to opt-in to his final year next year, right?
I don't like Howard particularly, but this is such a low cost, even if he doesn't opt in.

I agree, this deal I would pull in a heart beat, it's a risk with Howard's maturity and his injury history but I'll still gamble th at if that is the cost of him

That's what I was thinking, too, though I really doubt Morey would take just that.

But they do almost have to trade him since there have been reports that he's opting out to play elsewhere next year due to not wanting to play with Harden anymore. That's going to hurt his trade value at least a little bit.

There is a chance he opts in though right? His contract is going to pay him $23 MM + next year, I'm not positive he will beat that in the open market with the season he's currently having.

I can't see how Danny could possibly say no to that.

It's not enough to get Morey to say yes. Just posted this idea in the Sully thread as well -- links up some of the rumors out there:

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=oaas69e

HOU gets: M. Morris, David Lee, Dallas 2016 1st pick
PHX gets: Trevor Ariza (or Corey Brewer), Jared Sullinger
BOS gets: Howard

Noel has always made sense for both teams, and especially so this year. You're not going to maximize his value on the court playing the 4. It's not a good fit. Philly can get #1 ping pong balls + probably #3 ping pong balls with our Brooklyn pick to give them a great shot at Simmons and possibly two of the first three or four picks in the draft. For us, we solve our rebounding and interior defense issues for the next 10 years. This makes us a more attractive destination for what would be more or less the final major piece that we need, a big time scorer at the 2 or preferably the 3. I can always dream that Durant would thoughtfully analyze the situation here and see that it would be perfect for him. More realistically, maybe Bradley Beal.

I don't see him saying no to this either.

I think the Rockets will struggle to do better than Morris and a 1st for an expiring-contract Howard and removal of one of the Ariza / Brewer contracts.

Creating a legit trade for Howard in the trade machine is very difficult. Miami, for example, does not have the salaries to do a deal that makes much sense at all.

By the way, it was not a Houston writer who suggested the deal in the first of the above quotes, it was Kevin Pelton on ESPN -- first of five he suggests:

http://espn.go.com/nba/insider/story/_/id/14384804/five-potential-dwight-howard-trades-houston-rockets

for those who don't have insider, he says this:

Boston Celtics

Package: David Lee, Tyler Zeller, future first-round pick

Lee wouldn't have much value to the Rockets, who might just buy him out. Besides offering some flexibility with the hard cap Houston is working under this year after using its non-taxpayer mid-level exception, this trade is all about getting one of Boston's huge stockpile of picks to flip in another trade. That could work out like when the Rockets traded Kyle Lowry to the Toronto Raptors for a lottery pick that ended up being a key part of the James Harden deal months later.

I still think my deal makes more sense for Houston, though not sure if PHX is down. Regardless, I don't see Morey taking the package Pelton suggests.

He's seen as likely to opt out in an attempt to lock up one last big long-term contract, even if he prefers to stay in Houston.

Howard. Looks Like Jmmy Butler wants a new Coach. How about Brad Stevens?

I'm pretty sick of Howard's personality and he does seem like kind of a loser to me but.. he is still huge and you can't teach that. We also have a lot of late picks we won't be able to use all of. maybe something can be worked out. Hou seems hard to trade with though.
