Personally I'd still rather make a play at Noel with a trade to the 76ers.  They talk about still having needs, and offering up a young guard Bradley, Rozier or Smart, with what sounds like a veteran big like Johnson, for Joel Embiid.  If we're going after a Joel Embiid personally I'd rather offer up Rozier and Lee, would get the trade done.  Lee has an expiring contract and they get a young guard in Rozier to go with Noel and Okafor.  I think it could be worth the risk offering up Rozier and Lee, because Rozier is going to be deep and I rather keep Bradley, Smart to start and have IT and Hunter or Young being the backups.  Taking a risk on a big that if gets completely health could be a corner stone or could be a bust.

As I said I rather try to get Noel out of the 76ers but it would take more.  This is what I'd be willing to give for Noel.  Rozier, Olynyk, Jones III and Minnesota's 2016 1st round pick to Boston (via Phoenix) protected for selections 1-12; if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Minnesota will instead convey its 2016 2nd round pick and 2017 2nd round pick to Boston.  Noel then becomes our starting center and putting him next to Johnson on the block.  This also makes us able to resign Sullinger to be our back up power forward/center.  Also gives the Celtics the options at the trade deadline to either extend contracts to Zeller and Lee, or trade one of them depending on the season.

What are your thoughts?

Of course you would be willing to give up Rozier, Olynyk, and negative value Jones. Even the pick you are offering is weak.

But what you are willing to do is irrelevant if you aren't offering value to Philly. Philly is not going to swap the better prospect they believe in for mediocre prospects unless the prospect is unhealthy like Embiid.

my thoughts? you are offering a poopoo platter for a potentially young star. i think exploring a trade for noel would be worth while for ainge. but i believe it will take much better players to get noel.

What makes anyone think Noel is available?  No chance, zero...

Embid makes more sense because of injury. Do the Sixers recoup there pick and would a team like boston with picks gamble on his health?

I also don't see any reason to think they are open to trading him.

But if they were, it would be a timing issue-- it would have to be because they think they will still be bad when Noel's rookie contract is up (that is a hell of a horizon, but whatever).

In that case, they'd want newer assets. Maybe Rozier plus the Nets pick next year.

You know what..I don't think I'd do that trade to be honest.

People will flame me for this no doubt, but I don't see Noel as a potential star prospect.  I think that absolute best case scenario, he will be Tyson Chandler in his prime.  Elite defender, pretty good (but not great) rebounder, extremely limited on offense.

I think Rozier has the potential to be just as good or nearly as good as Noel 5 years from now (just a different type of player, obviously), and that Nets pick has huge potential.

I like Noel and i would like to get him on this team, but I don't I think his value as an asset too far exceeds his potential as a player.  The type of package I would offer is the type that Philly has about 0% likelihood of accepting...yet sadly I just don't think he's worth more than that.

As for the Noel vs Embiid comparison, I think Embiid - if he can get healthy - is much more valuable to Philly than Noel.

Noel's upside is that of a defensive specialist with practically no offensive game, and absolutely no jump shot.  Okafor is a slow and immobile big man who lives around the basket.  A Noel/Okafor combination looks a lot like a Drummond/Monroe combination - no court spacing at all.

Embiid has the ability to hit the outside jumper so he can stretch the floor, and he has the defensive ability and mobility to be able to make up for Okafor's limitations on that end of the floor too.  At his best, he'd be the theoretically perfect for next to Okafor - but the gamble is whether he'd ever be healthy.

Noel to me looks like the odd one out here, but even if that's the case I still can see Philly asking way too much for him in an attempt to try to get something back in case the fear comes true and Embiid becomes a bust.
