How can Danny possibly keep James Young in this roster?

He brings no value to this team on the court as he stands on the current roster.  None!  You can take any body fresh outta college and he'd give you equal to similar assistance.  Some people don't get that when somethings obvious well it's obvious.  Just like was obvious with green and rondo, it's time to move on and stop kidding yourself that things will get better.

People keep talking about his rookie deal, but Ainge has to decide whether to pick up his option for NEXT year at the end of THIS month.  What on earth has James Young shown that says his option should be picked up?  And if you're not going to pick up his option for next year, then there's no reason to keep him this year.

If his deal were already guaranteed for next year, it might make more sense.  But as it isn't, there's no reason to commit to paying him another $1.825 million.  Trade him now to somewhere that can give him the minutes, and get what you can in return.

For me it's not even about PJ3 at this point.  While I do think that PJ3 is more useful than James Young is, I also think an empty roster spot, a trade exception, even a small one, and a future pick are also more useful.  I'm sure there are D-leaguers who can contribute more over the next three seasons (the length of Young's rookie deal if all options are picked up) than C's will get from YoZng.

Danny has till summer to pick up option. I believe.

For a player on a rookie-scale contract, you have until October 31 (or November 2 this year, since October 31 is a Saturday) before the player's second season to exercise the third-year option.  So, Ainge has until November 2, 2015 to exercise Young's option for 2016-2017.

Side thought, I get why most business would move a Saturday to Monday, but the NBA plays 7 days a week.  Seems like there is really no reason to move things off of the weekend like that.

I would be as well.  The option is for a measely 1.8M, for 2015-16.  There is absolutely NO reason not to exercise that option at this point.

He will pick up the option. The money doesn't matter, he isn't worth anything to another team as a FA, we have invested in him, and he's still 17. Nothing to be excited about, granted, but I'm sure he sticks around a bit longer.

james young is making progress but it looks like rj is doing better in gym,rj has from tv, what seems broad shoulders-rj's lateral quickness seemed evident or  was it just his anticipation.
seems like  rj could work on lateral along with vertical. he has big  upside as his agility drill was so good
he lost a couple of bounce passes and one over the top to kelly,
is nba getting wise to his passing skills

I agree with most of what you say.  Not sure about the 5% comment.  We'll have to wait and see.  Seems a lot of folks in this group are still thinking of James Young of last year.
