Ok, so who are we rooting for tonight?  Boston or Minny?

I thought I'd never have to root against Boston again, and just root for the Nets to lose, but Minny is making things too close for comfort for the 4th slot.  My thinking is Boston can afford the loss tonight and still play strong down the stretch and get the 3rd seed.  I'm not feeling very good about Minny lately and Brooklyn has a few easy games coming up - albeit on the road.

People reading this thread all highly value the draft positioning, so I thought this would be a fair question in this thread.

Haha. I posted this in the game thread and got some flak for it. I'm rooting for the Celtics but won't be upset with a loss.

Yep, me too.  I'm shocked Minny can't play any better.  They have the talent.

They have elite talent, but it doesn't fit that well together yet and their coach is a dunce.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Minny has some nice pieces, but expecting extreme youth to win in this league is just a naive concept generated by young people playing too much NBA2K. Follow NBA history. Teams led by 19 and 20 year old kids do not win. They might in video games but not in real life.

Yep.  But, I'm not asking them to win a title ... 25 games this year would suffice  ;)

Mixed feelings but Minny won tonight although they were shaky at the end.  :(

OKC is an exception. They made the playoffs in Durants third year, Westbrooks second, and hardens rookie year.

Where are you getting that from? Durant was in his 5th year, Westbrook in his 4th, Harden in his 3rd year
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

Durant lost to the Lakers 4-2 in the 2009-2010 season, his 3rd year.

Minny isn't going to win anything now, and honestly they probably won't look like a playoff team until 2017-18 season.  But they have a crazy amount of upside, and 2-3 years from now they could be a real force.

It's a good thing for them, then,  that they've got a surplus of young assets to make trades, and having a young exciting core is a great way to overcome your location when it comes to attracting useful free agent role players who can help take the team to the next level.

It's true you can't expect to win a title with a team of twenty year olds, but the notion that the T Wolves aren't in a fantastic position from which to build a really good team is something that I can only regard as get-off-my-lawn-ishness.

Brooklyn have portland, phoenix, lakers, denver, min, philly x 2 between now and the first two weeks of March...that stretch will decide where boston picks.

Get your brooklyn loser hats on for these next 3 weeks.

According to my predictions - Final Record: 19-63

Allowing for unexpected wins/upsets of 2-3 games: 22-60

Current Worst Teams
30th Philly
29th Lakers
28th Phoenix
27th Brooklyn
26th Minnesota

At this point I dont believe they can catch the nuggets, new orleans, sacto, or the knicks for wins.

Current Scenario: 27th - 11.9% chance at 1st pick - 37.8% chance at top 3 pick
Best Case Scenario: 29th - 19.9% chance at 1st pick - 55.8% chance at top 3 pick
Worst Case Scenario: 26th - 8.8% chance at 1st pick - 29.1% chance at top 3 pick

TP, though I think they'll be closer to 21-24 wins than 19-22.  But what gets missed as we worry about Phoenix and Minnesota is that everyone else has stepped it up enough that a top 5 spot (pre-lotto) is pretty much guaranteed.

That's a darn good return with a swap and a pick to go, even though we're dreaming of better.
