Official 2015-16 Brooklyn Nets Season Watch Thread (21-59, 3rd slot as of 4/12)

I am obligated to root for the Lakers against Brooklyn...

 

It helps to remember that the Lakers lose their 1st unless it's in the top 3.  So we want them winning a few games to minimize their chances.

Man, imagine if the Celts get a top 5 pick from Brooklyn and the Lakers lose their pick to the Sixers, despite being a horrible, sad sack team.

That would just be . . . perfect.

It'll never happen for that reason.

I'm curious, who would people rather get a high pick, the Lakers or the Sixers? I'd rather the Lakers kept their pick. My Laker's hate kind of ended when the big 3 broke up.

I would rather the Lakers finish with a pick around #10 and give that to Philly.  Which I realize means rooting for even more Laker wins, but out of the playoffs is out of the playoffs.

If they don't do that well and their pick is in the 4-6 range, I agree with folks who say Philly getting another top prospect would lead to some annoying posts here, but like most annoying stuff online it's pretty easily solved by leaving the page or, as a last resort, closing your eyes.

The Nets just hired a college scout! I'm surprised they haven't decided to cut costs by just eliminating their whole scouting division.  I guess it will help for the pick swap years!

Or if they decide to trade someone from the Lopez/JJ/Young core for a 1st or two.  Which might be exactly what they're eyeing - if you're gonna be terrible either way why not get as many picks as you can?

There is also the fact that they are in our division and conference which people, to my shock, don't seem to consider.

Divisions are mostly meaningless now.

The Celts are too far away from even having a shot at even reaching the Conference Finals, let alone getting to the Finals, for me to worry about which teams might stand in the Celts' way once they reach that point.

I wonder if the fellowship of the miserable is starting to change their tune on the nets. When you go against very smart people like statisticians, linesmakers and professional analysts (not just talking heads) you really put yourself out there.

I've been pretty consistent in saying that I think the Nets should win about 30 games, with the possibility of a bit more if their bench comes together, and the possibility for less if their vets suffer injuries.

I've also been consistent in hoping that I'm wrong.  I would absolutely love for the Nets to have the worst record in the league this year.  That'd be awesome.  That 2016 Nets pick looks like the Celts' best hope at being relevant outside of New England anytime soon.


By the way, I really like 'fellowship of the miserable' as a creative way of casually and not-too-harshly deriding posters that take a more pessimistic stance than the average poster.  It's a dang sight better than "tankers," and more interesting than "pessimists."

Putting a respectable team on the floor while still having a shot at the elite talent this team needs . . . that's a best case scenario.  I want the NBA to change the lottery so that's a possibility every year for teams outside the echelon of Elite Contenders.

I think I'm gonna start using "miserati".  The brevity's nice but that pseudo-intellectual veneer really pushes it over the top.

I agree with you, but it's spelled "Schadenfreude" here in Germany, I've heard there isn't even a word for that feeling in English

Yeah, I'm hoping this tough early schedule sends them into a losing spiral that compounds itself, leading to the 15-20 win season we all hope to see. 

If they're 10-15 games under .500 before Christmas, how much resolve will they have to get back on track?
