Someone told me the other day in 5 years they have never heard me swear. It's true that in my travels I have worked in a lot of places where I couldn't swear. Various customer service with old people or young people. I suppose I have built up some good habits. But I wasn't always that way.

I saw a hot young earnest bank teller mess something up the other day and she said "sugar" and I thought it was one of the cutest things I had ever seen.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
It really doesn't have a place in the professional realm, but swearing can be quite satisfying and accentuate a point. As a 'punk' for the last 20+ years, I don't see a correlation between swearing and education and I think people can be arbitrarily sanctimonious about it.

As for how it relates to this particular board, I think it's best to keep the profanity away. Swearing can turn into insults very quickly and everything derails once that happens.

I'm awful at it.  Swear like a sailor.  Pretty much use the f word in every part of speech (noun, adjective, verb, etc...)

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

This is a good post and I agree with it.

I think I've done a pretty good job on here holding back from swearing. But seriously, it usually does make a person come off as not tat smart, unless it;s done right. Sometime,'s it's just funny and makes a regular funny comment extra funny.

Almost never swear, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

At the start of high school i wouldn't ever THINK of swearing out loud, let alone think such words in my head. Alas, times have changed. Unfortunately, swear words are now a part of my everyday life as a HS senior. I honestly wish i could stop, but it's difficult.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

I don't see a correlation between swearing and education and I think people can be arbitrarily sanctimonious about it.

Pretty much how I see it.

I'll swear if I want to, when I want to, and don't particularly care what others think about it. I've never thought swearing makes a person sound less educated.

But I also can see the value in this point of view as well.

Oh yeah, both points are valid.  I swear a fair bit in everyday life, but when you allow it in a forum setting it quickly starts drowning things out, even if you keep the no personal attacks stuff in place.  It's just easier to swear a bunch than make a coherent argument.
