Louis Charles "Lou" Tsioropoulos (August 31, 1930 – August 22, 2015) was a Greek-American professional basketball player who played for the NBA's Boston Celtics for three seasons from 1956-1959. He was born in Lynn, Massachusetts.

Statement from the Boston Celtics:

Quote
BOSTON - The Boston Celtics organization is saddened to hear of the passing of Lou Tsioropoulos on Saturday, Aug. 22. Lou had a special connection to the Celtics family both as a hometown hero as well as being a part of the organization’s first two championships. Our thoughts are with Lou’s family.

Statement from Tommy (Lou was Tommy's substitution):

Quote
Lou Tsioropoulos was my roommate and a member of the first Celtics championship team. He was a prototype for the sixth man that was developed over the years. He was a fun guy and probably would have had a longer career as a Celtic if it wasn’t for injuries. My heart goes out to Lou’s family and he will be missed.

Lou died two weeks ago. I asked the people who run the blog to make an official post but there was no reply. No hard feelings, I understand they are super busy.

Still, it is a shame Lou's death went unnoticed by the community.

A fellow Celtic, Aristidis Tsatsos, sent me all the photos he could find online.

I post them here in memoriam.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
