Meh, doesn't move the needle...

Heck no. Ross is a chucker. Sully will be worth a lot more.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I'd go after him. I'd start at Sully for Ross + a 2nd, but I'd be okay with Sully + 2nd for Ross.

Sullinger for Ross actually makes sense for both teams. They lost Amir and signed Carroll so they're set at the wing (Carroll & DeRozan), but need a 4. We have a ton of 4's, but need guys who can play, more importantly defend, the 3.

Ross is very gifted athletically and can spread the floor. His problem has been inconsistency and falling asleep as a defender when off the ball.

He is a (slightly) plus player on the floor (like +1.1) which means he is better at offense than he is bad on defense. We have guys who can defend the 3 (Crowder, even ET) but we don't have any shooter at the 3 (unless you want to play Jerebko - but he is much less effective). Even at the 2 we only have AB who is an OK - not great shooter and is undersized.

Do we really want to pray RJ can be our wing shooter in his Rookie year?

Crowder is the only guy on our entire team that can effectively cover 3's. Turner is undersized at the spot and much better suited to cover 2's.

And even "worse" Crowder is actually much better at the PF (like we need another one). He likes to bang and has even played Center for us (in our "Very Very Small Ball" lineup).

We NEED to get a SG and SF who can shoot.

I don't see Terrence Ross making a big difference. He's a decent player but is he demonstrably better than Crowder or Turner? Any move for him would feel like making a trade for the sake of making a trade. The team should be focusing on upgrading its talent, not bringing in more decent players.

He probably doesn't move the needle, but it could be the two for one trade we have been looking for.

But if he's not better than either of the guys we'd be trading, what's the point?

How about Sully & the Minny pick(s) for Ross?

Terrence Ross went on a 2 month long shankfest last season. He started out gangbusters and literally could not hit the broad side of a barn for the better part of 2 months and popped back a little at the end of the season. This isn't baseball, guys that go on extended slumps are not acceptable. The prizes from the Raptors are Lowry and Derozan. Either guy would thrive with Stevens at the helm. Derozan wouldn't take so many iso fall away jumpers and it would be super exciting basketball to watch.

Ross doesn't excite me, especially for that package.  I wouldn't trade Sully straight up for him.  The guy is a decent 3 pt shooter but doesn't offer a lot else.  that's worth less than a rebounding PF that can shoot mid-range shots, good scorer around the basket and a very good passing big man.

Sully has too much potential still, more valuable than that.

I would trade him in a package for Derozen however.

Bradley, Sully & our own 1st rounder in the next draft.

They keep Ross to play with Lowry & Demarre.  Sully alongside big JV also fits nicely for Toronto, considering the void left by Amir.

Why not? Snag a young'n with talent and upside at a position of need and start to clear a logjam.

He may/may not have gone for 51 pts and 9 reb against LAC in 2014.

If Sully went for 51 and 9 (of anything), he would immediately be anointed the cornerstone of our franchise, future HOFer.
