Celts projected by ESPN to finish with a 40-42 record and get the 8th seed.

Nets projected to finish 12th in the conference with a 30-52 record.

The fact that they can't get a good twitter pull quote for the Hawks, even after their season, says so much about ATL.

I found it interesting that the forecast has nobody in the East other than the Cavs with more than 50 wins, but I guess it's probably due to the forecast being an average of predictions.

Same poll last year had Boston winning 28 games so take this with a grain of salt haha.

I think a couple of teams will be in that high 40s low 50s range.

I don't think anybody outside of Cleveland will go beyond the low 50s. The East is wretched at the top of the conference outside of the Cavs. No competition for them whatsoever. Such an easy road back to the Finals. Terrible.

Yeah funny how revamping almost your entire starting 5 over the year changes how preseason predictions look after the season is in the books. :P

Because getting rid of the two best veterans on your team always results in a lot more wins.

As for the prediction, it's not bad if you add in the caveat that one team will seriously over perform and one will underperform.

We were pretty lucky to win 40 games last year. The team over achieved and probably benefitted from so many teams tanking last year.

I think we have a better team this year and getting 40 wins will not be a fluke this time. 46 wins would be over achieving this year. It's possible but I think 40 is a safer bet.

I could see this. I felt that last year's end-of-year roster was one that gelled and worked better than the one from the beginning of the year yet overachieved and won many games tha tcould have easily gone the other way. (The C's had something like 6 game-winning, buzzer-beater shots!)

I believe mean regression will not make the torrid pace from the end of last year sustainable, but a playoff roster with returning players and slight improvements will have a higher "median" win total. So the team might finish with 40, but less of them will be "flukey" ones.

You're point or joke is irrelevant. They should've been worse after those trades so I don't know what you are even trying to say.

Team is deep with quality backups .  Few teams or great ones can afford to sustain injuries and maintain playing level.   Ones that rely heavy on 1-2-3 certain players every night ......it's hard for teams like that to maintain consistent play with hard schedule and BTB games.

It's hard for three players to play great all season .  We have 15 hungry capable players.

Any team that goes to sleep this year against the C's could easily find themselves with a loss.

A: It's 'your'

B: I'll explain: the prediction of 28 wins came with our Rondo/Jeff Green led squad. Once we traded away nearly our entire starting lineup, it doesn't make sense to rely on that prediction anymore, since it's based on players that are not on our team.

If you made a prediction on how many wins the Celtics would snag for the 2007-2008 Season on May 31st, 2007, it would have exactly no relevance because the team was totally rebuilt in July of that year (that's when we traded for Kevin Garnett, in case you've forgotten). One team would have been lucky to scrape 40 wins, while the other won 66.

Make sense?
