  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Definitely Amir and either Sully/Lee. I went with Sully because there is no reason why he should lose his starting job to an incoming aging expiring player, but crazier things have happened. I like what Lee brings to the table, but we literally got him for the corpse of Gerald Wallace. If Brad doesn't continue to develop our young bigs, I will be disappointed.

They didn't Literally get him for the corpse of Gerald Wallace. He is still very much alive as far as I know.
Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine. I tried to let it go, but couldn't . Maybe I need help. ???

True, and ironically enough it is a pet peeve of mine, as well (I understand the difference between literally and figuratively). The focus of my comment was that it was literally a straight up trade for our worst player, not the 'corpse' part. Now that I think of it, I guess where I made my mistake was that Babb was also included.

Anyway, I stand by my point that Lee shouldn't expect to start, but he should decent playing time behind Amir and Sully.

The problem is once Amir goes out there will be a drop-off defensively, as no combination of Zeller, Lee, Sully, or Olynyk is ideal.  I don't expect Mickey to contribute much this year, especially early in the season.  But I guess that we've been dealing with a poor defensive frontline for so long that we could suffer through it for a bit longer.

My choice is Lee and Amir Johnson as well.
When Johnson goes out, I'd put in Tyler Zeller or Mickey.  Mickey is very athletic and defensive-minded, and Zeller has the size and at least positional defense to make things difficult for those trying to attack the rim.

I dont think Lee was benched because he's washed up.  He got benched because Draymond Green is just that good.  Lee also showed us a lot in the playoffs when asked to play and he answered the call for Golden State when they needed him on the biggest stage.

Let's not forget that Lee was benched for a good part of the season last year and might be washed up. I think he's going to be in better shape this season than he was last season and I do think he will be a big part of the Celtics rotation at the start of the season but I think its a mistake to look at it as a foregone conclusion.

Draymond Green was great but Lee logged 6 healthy DNP's in the playoffs. In the 13 games he did play he only played more than 9 minutes 5 times and never played more than 17 in a single game. It wasn't just Green, Festus Ezeli played more mpg than Lee did during those playoffs.

It can't be ignored that when Golden State went with Green full time early in the season, Lee didn't pick up the minutes one might expect him to as a center nor was he Green's back-up a lot of the time.
