It's not all about defense there is offense and also rebounding. AJ shouldn't be a starting center.

Tell that to Joakim Noah and Tyson Chandler.

We got Amir Johnson to be a defensive presence in the paint for us.  And that's what I expect to see - defense, intimidation, rebounding, and toughness.  That will help us a lot to solidify what was a soft middle at times, last season.

I think Stevens and Amir mesh really well. He will be the first player in NBA history to go from 9 pts and 5 rebound to avg 30ppg 15rpg and 5 bpg. He wins MVP of the league and we win the title.
Well he did go from 6'9 PF role player with the Raptor to 7'  Center and key force for the C's on this very thread so why not?

I still don't understand why you are holding onto that 6'9" number so tightly. Most people have accepted that he has grown an inch or two at most since entering the NBA. Regardless, I also still don't get why you can't see that it isn't about labels or whatever. Amir provides a skillset to this frontcourt that no one else has on this team. Whether he does it listed as a center or power forward is moot.
Well I still don't know why others are holding onto the idea he is the starting center when he has been a PF his whole career. Let's see how season progresses. I see him starting along side Zeller.

He is what he has been his whole NBA career though a PF. People are dying for a center so bad they want to project AJ to that spot. And AJ was not the best center for the Raptors. Taking a sample size of like 8 mins per game doesn't project to a starting center. He has good strengths vs other PFs why move his position and weaken him? C's need a legit Center or to keep developing Zeller those are the answers not AJ out of position.

KG made the transition to center.  I don't see why Amir Johnson can't play Center for us.  The days of traditional bruising 5 centers is dying out.  Most modern centers are just long 4's anyways.
KG was already too old and slow to keep playing PF. AJ is not that.

AJ is not even close to those guys defensively come on now.

If Amir is healthy all year i see him as a guy who gives our front court that next step we have needed. He can protect the rim better than anyone we have and fits well with alot of our other bigs. Defend 5's when KO, sully, and David lee are on the court.

I think they know that, but that doesn't mean he can't provide it.

No matter how good or bad he plays, we can pretty much expect him to be traded at the end of this season.  A deal like his that becomes a $12 million immediately waivable contract after one year is set up to be part of a salary match.  There is no other reason.

Amir was a PF because the last several years Toronto had a pretty good center in Jonas that had almost a 21.00 PER last year.  He just got a nice and deserved contract extension as well.
