That's a fantastic attitude for any second round pick to have.  Focus on those things first and foremost.

I know Mickey is just a second round rookie, but it is nice to have two bigs, in Amir and Mickey, who will absolutely focus on defense as their first priority.

Very excited about Jordan. He seems like that Klay Thompson, Rodney Hood, Draymond Green type whose scouting report we will look back on years down the line and wonder "how the heck did this guy slip to the *x* pick?"

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

I get the idea but the only scout report I look back on and think how did he slip that far is Klay Thompsons and I think that RJ Hunter is the guy that we will say this about.

Not sold on Rodney Hood.

Hopeful Mickey will get lots of playing time for the Red Claws and may even be able to find some spot minutes for Boston.

Rodney Hood

Throw Rudy Gobert in there too.

I remain disappointed that Ainge chose Young over Hood (though at the time I may have preferred Capela, who also looks like a better prospect so far).

Never understood the James Young hype either. That NCAA tournament run for him really propelled his draft stock higher than it should have been.

In hindsight, Rodney Hood or Kyle Anderson would have been great fits for Boston.

Excellent read, TP. This really speaks to Danny and Brad's intention to go after high character guys. Hopefully Mickey puts in the work, earns playing time, and becomes the next Draymond; he certainly has the tools and work ethic to do so.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Eh, Young is still only 19 and has a lot of physical skills and athleticism on top of that beautiful shot. I like what Hoods shown so far, but everyone always complains that Ainge looks for high floor low ceiling players in the middle-late 1st round and there's validity to that. Sometimes you gotta take a chance on a guy who has a high ceiling but comes with high bust potential. When you do that, sometimes they bust. Other times they become Rajon Rondo.

I'd probably trade Young in a deal for Hood right now, but Young still has a high ceiling. He's only 19. If he puts it together, he could be a very good wing scorer in this league.

I see a lot of JR Smith in James Young. When his shot isn't falling, he's engaged - running the floor, putting in noticeable effort on D, using those long arms and leaping ability to rebound, etc. When his shot isn't falling, he barely even looks like a basketball player. That's fine with me. If we get a guy who can be one of the league's best offensive backup wings at pick 17, I'll be happy. I don't think that's his ceiling, but rather a realistic outcome for him.

I agree the Young vs. Hood comparisons are unfair because of age and injury. Hood is 22 and got a bigger opportunity to showcase himself due to a season ending injury to Alec Burks. I like Hood a lot - and think he'll eventually be a solid starter in the league - but I do agree that, if Young pans out (a huge if), he has the potential to be something more potent than merely just a solid starter.

I was pleasantly surprised to see him making some mid range jumpers in the summer league. If he actually does wind up developing a 3-point show, he's got Serge Ibaka potential.

I think Kyle Aderson would've been a perfect fit. But he kind of reminds me of too much of Evan Turner.

I think James Young has a higher ceiling than Rodney Hood. I don't see Hood ever becoming a go to scorer, or elite scorer. But Young is extremely raw, while Hood is 22. Big different age gap.

Rudy Gobert is going to be extremely talented. I don't know who was on the hype train, but I certainly wanted him just for his size, and because he seemed quicker than Fab Melo, who a lot of us were disappointed with the day he got drafted.
