Quote
Arrivals: David Lee, Amir Johnson, Perry Jones, Zoran Dragic
Departures: Brandon Bass,
Retained: Jae Crowder, Jonas Jarebko

This was a genuinely lukewarm offseason for the Boston Celtics. Adding David Lee while only giving up Gerald Wallace is a good move, as is signing Amir Johnson (despite the high price tag), but what's the endgame here?

On paper, the Celtics may be slightly improved (especially if their first-round draft picks pan out), but remaining in the middle of the NBA pack (and the late lottery) is never the best option.

Of course, having Perry Jones gifted to them by the OKC Thunder helped their cause in a big way. In fact, it bumped Boston up a full letter grade.

Grade: B-

Apparently they really like Perry Jones.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

A whole letter grade wow.   I know that many here do not appreciate athletic ability, hence the support for KO and Sully but even I am skeptical that he raises us a whole letter grade.

The Perry Jones trade was great for us, but I don't think it has a huge effect on the big picture. We are still in the situation that we are holding out for a lopsided trade, a huge break in the draft, an unexpected jump in development for one of our players, or an uncharacteristic free agent push and land a superstar. He's one more player who we can put in a trade later and/or could hypothetically develop into an all-star talent but he's not really a different asset than Evan Turner really.

I really, really don't understand the love for a guy who probably won't stick around in the NBA beyond his rookie deal and might never even play for Boston.

Giving the Celts a C- without the Perry Jones deal seems a bit harsh.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

It does, and I can't see how Jones raises Boston a full letter grade, but I thought the analysis was pretty spot on.  A lukewarm offseason is a good way to put it.

Yeah, lukewarm is pretty much perfect.

The writer must really love PJIII. Worth a whole letter grade from C- to B-?  ::) ::)

I think Boston deserves a B for their offseason overall. They were able to retain all key players and bolstered their frontcourt depth while maintaining all their 2016 draft picks.

I'd give us a B or B+. I really like the Amir and Crowder signings. I love that we got a couple of picks for free and took a flyer on PJ3. However, we definitely could have done more.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

B- seems fair. There was some nice little moves but I don't think we got anyone that's going to make the team better than a 7th seed again.

And yeah, that writer seems to be overrating PJ3, who is really just potential right now.
