Jae Crowder? Meaning a previously under appreciated guy who earns an expanded role in Boston, putting up improved counting stats, continuing to be an advanced stats darling, and endearing himself to Celtics fans through defensive intensity and team play. Ultimately, could he be a candidate to earn a long-term contract, much like Crowder?

I don't think much of what you said is true, yet, of Crowder himself.

Plus, Amir already had a pretty big role in Toronto.

The next non-superstar center in a very long line of non-superstar centers for the Celtics franchise.

I am optimistic that he does well provided his nagging injuries are rehabbed.

I sure hope so. That would be great news for Boston.

Eh, I don't know about playing his way into a long term deal, he's like a 10 year vet now.

Still, I think he's a highly under-appreciated acquisition from this summer. He provides a lot of the things we needed last year (interior defense, rebounding) and is the perfect kind of on-court veteran leader for this team. I think having him healthy all year could make a pretty big difference. Having a guy like KO play next to him is WAY better than playing him next to Sully or Zeller.

I think it's almost a given he'll endear himself to C's fans, have you ever seen him play? He embodies what Stevens and Ainge want to build here culture wise.

Hard not to like the guy, think many will be pleasantly surprised.

Concerned he and Lee will struggle to play together, though, unless we are able to play small ball. They'd struggle with two bangers down low, like Memphis.

He got a fair amount of minutes, but his USG% was quite low, lower than Sully's, KO's, and Zeller's.

What's USG% mean?

Paul Pierce was recently talking up DeMare Carroll as a guy who was underappreciated. He would scrimage with Paul and others in the off season and hold his own against max contract guys. Pierce always wanted the Celts to attain him during the run.

Though he's older I think I get that vibe with Amir. Seems like the guy that the great players respect and the front offices slept on. Hoping Amir can break out a bit here. Starting for a playoff team like Toronto was no joke. It he produces here I'd be all for locking him up on a 5 year team option on the 5th,

More specifically, it's:
100 * ((FGA + 0.44 * FTA + TOV) * (Tm MP / 5)) / (MP * (Tm FGA + 0.44 * Tm FTA + Tm TOV))

So basically the number of possessions that a player ends with a shot, a free throw, or a turnover compared to the rest of his team. This is why a player like Carmelo Anthony or Kobe typically has a massive usage percentage.

Johnson's only 27 and has already started a majority of games in his already long career, including 144 games over the last two years in Toronto.

Boston fans may not yet appreciate him, but he's already established in the league.

But he's much more a defensive player than those guys.
