With Zoran Dragic gone, this means PJIII needs to impress management and CBS that he is worthy of the 15th spot.

I would keep PJIII for the 13th spot and on the roster.......do a 2/3 for 1 trade or get rid of another guy.

I think his talent could be possibly untapped and would hate for us to waive him and he become a solid rotational guy down the line for another team.

who on this roster will be the 14-th and 15th guys that will spend the most time in the D-league this year?   that's going to be a tough call. young for sure right?

I think Danny gave it an honest shot at trying to trade Dragic for something of value before he waived him. Cant blame him for trying.

I would have to say Young, yeah.

If I'm not mistaken I believe that he following are the players don't have guaranteed contacts beyond this season:

James Young
Perry Jones
Jared Sullinger
Evan Turner
David Lee
Tyler Zeller

Looking at that list:
* I can't see Zeller being moved, given he's arguably the only true center on our roster
* I don't see Lee going, given his $15M contact for this year (making a waive / trade unlikely)

That leaves:
* James Young
* Perry Jones
* Jared Sullinger
* Evan Turner

I don't think Danny would ditch Sullinger this early in the season - with all the question about his work ethic / weight issues, along with the fact that he's expiring, his value is probably at it's lowest right now.  Would make much more sense to see what he does with his body this off season and give him until the All-Star break to prove he is legit.

So that leaves:
* Young ($1.7M)
* Jones ($2.03M)
* Turner ($3.42M)

I could see Danny potentially trading either of those three guys, probably looking for a draft pick of some form in return.

Turner could help a potential playoff team, so I could see him fetching a late first rounder from a top 5 seed in either conference (that pick is basically equivalent to a second rounder, given how late it would be).

Either Jones or Young could probably be traded to a young rebuilding team looking for prospects, in return for a second round pick.

Here is a list of 'prospects' currently on our roster:
* Perry Jones
* Terry Rozier
* James Young
* Jordan Mickey
* RJ Hunter

If we cut Turner, then that would leave us with 5 guys (or 1/3 of our entire 15-man roster) being unproven prospects.  Honestly, I find it hard to believe that Danny/Brad will be comfortable moving forward with that much unproven youth taking up roster spots that could be filled by productive players - especially now that we seem to be focussed on winning rather than tanking.

As such, I would hazard a guess that the last guy cut is going to be one of the prospects - either James Young, or Perry Jones.

I think all eyes are going to be on those two players in training camp this year, and the guy who performs better (or seems to fit the team better) will stay, while the other will be gone.

Personally I think Perry Jones has far more upside than Young largely due to his size and elite athleticism - I feel that if he got his head on right and worked at it, he could be the type of guy who could defend 4 or 5 positions and also contribute on offense.  I guess we'll see.

This is what Danny has been doing all off-season: Wait as long as possible before making moves, meanwhile try to get a better deal in place.

James Young was a first round pick, how does he not have a guaranteed contract? Wouldn't it mean Smart doesn't either because they were selected same season. Unless lotto picks get different guarantees than someone a few places outside of it?
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

On SB Nation - CelticsBlog it is mentioned that the second round pick we acquired from Miami is heavily protected and may never come to be.  Anyone know the particulars?

Not an expert but I think for where they were selected, Smart and Young have first 2 years guaranteed and third year is a team option...something like that.

Oklahoma City gave us a pick to take Perry Jones so nobody is going to give us something for him, otherwise they would have just traded for him earlier in the offseason when he was with Oklahoma City. I would try to trade Turner. I like James Young and would keep him for his entire 4 year rookie deal. But I don't think we would get a lot for Turner and think we will release Jones.

Way too early to give up on Young. He's a 19 year old who had a rough rookie year and a couple bad summer league games. He deserves more time.

If Ainge can't pull of a good 2 for 1 AND PJ3 impresses (this point is moot if not), then I would consider cutting Turner. That's not because I hate him. I actually like him. But I don't see him on this team beyond this year. And if Danny can't get an asset for him now, they might as well cut him loose now than lose out on a shot at a young player developing.

Yep, that was my point, if Young isn't guaranteed as the poster said, that means Smart isn't either but he wasn't named as non-guarantee.

Not sure of the veracity of this post, but it seems legit.  Looks like Dragic was not traded for a heavily protected 2nd.  Rather he was traded for an unprotected 2nd rounder in 2020.  Finding this information wasn't easy.  Most sites have him traded for a heavily protected 2nd round pick.  Don't know who  to believe.
