Can we stop trying to trade Evan Turner

The longer Evan Turner remains a player deserving of major minutes on the Celtics the longer we will not be contending for a championship.

This upcoming season will won't contend, right?

And, we clearly have so much talent on this team we absolutely can't tank. 

We are simply to good to tank, but not good enough to contend.  Sucks for us right? So what should we do?

What is our next best option?

When I ask myself these questions I realize the answer pretty quickly, and it's the only answer.

We try to get as far as we can next season, with the best players we have. We try to win a playoff series so that when the next off-season comes around.. anyone who may be available via trade or FA will give us an honest look.

The only way to attract a really good player is to show them our team is only a couple steps away ------> The only to show a really good player we are a couple steps away is to be as good as you possibly can be --------> Trading Turner Makes Us Worse This Season and it defeats our primary goal

Turner only has 1 year left on his contract. Why does it matter if we trade him? He's gone next year no matter what. Lets use him this season to help our primary goal.

Rozier/Hunter are NOT going anywhere ANY time soon, we do not need to invest heavy minutes into them this year....which would pretty much be the ONLY reason to trade Turner! Not worth it IMO, to risk the playoffs to develop Rozier and Hunter when it's just their rookie season, they can sit and learn and play spot minutes.

Basically we have a lot of guys we COULD trade, including ET and not really worry about them haunting us. But there is no rush as we shouldn't just give anyone away. Yes we have too many guys that deserve time, but why is everyone looking at it as a bad thing? If I needed to hire 3 workers and had 10 apply I would think it's a good thing. Same here. Let them all fight it out this year and see who earns it.

As for me, I'd rather not trade perhaps one of our best all-around players right now, that is still rather young, has turned his career around and is starting to maximize his potential under CBS.

I think he'd make a great fit in BOS once we land a star or two.

I think I largely agree with this, but could you sorta give a bit more context here? I mean some words like "deserving" and "major minutes"....in nba terms....idk.

I mean if Turner were traded straight up for the Warriors 9th or 10th man...who's that...I think that would have been David Lee this year. Maybe Leandro Barbosa.

I think that trade might have actually favored the Warriors. 

I think he's a good 9th man and he gets paid like one. He brings a little oomph. But I agree with you the goal should be that he doesn't get "major minutes".

I think the hate for Evan Turner is underserved.

That said, I also don't think he has a future beyond this season on this team.

So I would say this: I'd seriously consider cutting him (or trading for a second rounder) if we can't find a better way to trim down the roster.

Some teams may actually be interested in a young player with versatility and decent ball handling ability.

Those same teams could have had him last year for pennies.

But Ainge got him, which is further evidence of him being a step ahead of almost every GM in the league.

If you mean:

A step a head in acquiring an inefficienct, ball stopping, mediocre defending NBA player...

Then yeah, sure. Good teams with good GMs didn't and still don't want Evan Turner. He showed what he was on a contender, and it's not much.

Dudes in every trade proposal.  He has almost zero value to a good team so if anything, including him will downgrade the package.

clearly turner has SOME value, as was proven by crawford's trade last year. but if reading all these suggestions is tedious, tiresome, and torturous (gosh knows some themes do the same thing to me) then perhaps simply ignoring them and reading other posts will alleviate your irritation.

after all, authoring a thread that directly creates discussions on the very topic you dont want to be discussed is hardly the best way to avoid that topic.

Personally I don't think we should trade Evan Turner.  He has good value to our team being able to fill three spots in a rotation when needed.  He's only 26, turning 27 this season.  People talk about his turnovers like he's horrible, at 2.4 a game which is not horrible for someone who ball handles a good portion of his time.  Also a stat filler for us with averaging last year 5.1 rebounds, 5.5 assist and 9.5 points a game in 27.6 minutes a game.  His contract is actually really of a value you for us, if anything if we could resign him to a similar deal, I'd be resigning him.

I don't hate turner. I just don't think he's that good. but I do think BS' system is best suited for him. so even if a team were to trade for him they'll likely not use him the same way.

as for the OP. I can't believe the "transaction" portion of CelticsBlog is easily the most active forum on this site, but it is...if it's not turner it'd be someone else. and apparently anyone on our roster and our plethora of draft picks is enough to land the likes of Lebron, Durant and Melo...

To those who want to keep everyone because they're irreplaceable, we'll just release Dragic plus the other nonguaranteed players and hope that the league doesn't notice that we have 16 players on our roster. Seriously, Turner is an effective player but does he seem like a good fit long term in Steven's offense? He's also an expiring contract and may leave for a team that's a better fit after this season anyway.

The reason we don't like Evan Turner, because it leads absolutely nowhere. He has no higher ceiling, and doesn't have the skill to be a starter or a sixth man.

I would rather bite the bullet and see how Jae Crowder does next year. Here's hoping he can develop a legitimate 3 pt shot?
