I've very seriously considered this possibility too.
My main concern with our roster right now is thee point shooting.
For all intents and purposes Jerebko is the only guy on our team who can hit a three from the SF spot with any type of consistency, and as a bonus he is a versatile inside/outside defender who can cover three positions at a squeeze.
Stevens loves guys who can spead the floor, and he loves guys who are versatile defensively, so unless Crowder can develop into a legitimate three point threat (i.e. at least 34% on two attempts per game) it's really not hard to envision Jerebko taking over that starting SF spot.
Crowder's biggest strengths are defense and hustle, and Jerebko does both of those just as well as Crowder does, so I'm pretty confident JJ will be challenging Crowder for that starting spot all season long. If Crowder is going to keep it, he's going to have to earn it.
Then there is the X-Factor, RJ Hunter. He's a rookie so I doubt he'll get a lot of minutes, but we all know he is a personal favorite of Brad Stevens - if he surprises people early with his play and work ethic, and if he shoots as well as he his reputation suggests, he could overtake all of those guys by the all-Star break.
Ironically, Hunter probably is the most all-round talent we have at that wing position since he can shoot the three, score, pass, rebound and defend at a nice level. Also because he's a high IQ and high effort player, which will immediately makes him a coach favorite.
If Crowder can't beat out Jerebko I will have to lower my expectations big time. I like JJ, I bet he does start some gams but due to injuries.
