What a grab at 33.  I thought he was surely going to be picked after Hunter and before the 33rd pick.  Great timing on blocking shots.  Underrated offensive skills.  Athleticism + good BBIQ

Played alongside a guy in NCAA Division 1 that averaged 5.6 blocks/game in college, and lead the NBA preseason in blocks/game. Never made it to the NBA, though... yet very similar to Mickey in size and skill-set.

I think he still needs to work on his rebounding if he wants to see consistent minutes. But DA found pretty good value at 33.

Played alongside a guy named Deng Gai (cousin of Luol Deng) in NCAA Division 1 that averaged 5.6 blocks/game in college, and lead the NBA preseason in blocks/game. Never made it to the NBA, though... yet very similar to Mickey in size and skill-set.

There is a difference a guy that can block in the NCAA vs NBA.   You have to be aware of the 3 second rule, players are smarter and  you have to prevent getting burnt by the man your guarding (easy dunks) before even thinking about helping others to block shots.

Mickey led in BPG in the ncaa, NBA combine 5 on 5, SL play. Lets see if he can keep this up

The rebounding will improve as he gets stronger and adds 10-15 pounds of muscle.

As of right now,  it will better to play Mickey alongside good rebounders like Amir, Lee and Sully.

Right now Mickey appears to be #6 on the depth charts of bigs for the celtics. His development would be far better served playing lots of minutes in the Dleague instead of riding the bench in Boston.

I wake up every day thinking today's the day that the Celts will have moved one or two of Sully, Olynyk and Zeller to make room for Mickey.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

Meh, Rakeem Christmas is better, imo (and no, I'm not trolling or trying to provoke you, triboy, lol ;D). He's taller (not by much, but it still counts ;D), stronger, and has excellent post moves with either hand, no less, which is quite rare in today's NBA.  Having said that, I wouldn't have taken either guy at 33, although I would have been more than happy to help the Cavs out financially if we could have gotten Christmas in the process.  Sigh.

Wow.  Rakeem shot almost 20% LESS from the field than Mickey and has a 7.50 PIE compared to Mickey's 16.67 PIE.  And Mickey averaged 2.4 blocks to the TALLER Rakeem's 1.8 block per game.  Plus, Rakeem had ONE GOOD YEAR in college.  ONE.  I think that Rakeem is a good player, but he simple is NOT NEAR the athlete that Mickey is!!!

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
The gamble with Mickey is obviously hoping that his shot blocking in the NCAA and summer league will translate vs NBA length.

Watching him in summer league, he was great on both ends....
but he was doing it vs scrubs.
Look at all the bums he was playing against in summer league, those are 3rd and 4th string big men in the NBA.

The question is can he play vs NBA size?
This I'm not convinced about, but I hope he proves me wrong.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Why do people talk about SL scrubs as if every player doesn't play those same players? SL isn't always a precursor to the type of success a player will have but what's the point in always saying that when it means the same for every player?
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

I don't know what the general consensus is about this guy but I really like what I'm seeing. The fact that the Celtics signed him to one of the richest contracts for a 2nd rounder tells me that there is potential. This may seem like an overstated comparison but I think he can develop into a Harrison Barnes or Draymond Green...

PS - What scares me though is the media attention he has been getting. Will that affect his attitude? Will he continue to play with a chip on his shoulder? I really hope so. Last thing, liking the FT shooting on this guy...

Here's a link to a column about Mickey and the negotiation process he went through to receive the richest rookie deal in NBA history for a 2nd round draft pick:

Don't feed the troll. Not sure he knows he's being a troll, but with the amount of smileys being tossed around it's got to be sarcasm, right?

I look forward to seeing if he can contribute meaningfully with NBA rotation players. It does seem like he could be a useful guy off the bench.
