for the very first time, I was encouraged by the play of Young--in the last game....looked like he knew what he was doing...made some nice passes and also had some smart drives to the hoop----picking up fouls, creating something out of nothing.
Larry Bird was Greater than you think.

I don't think it is an IQ thing. You can see him anticapate plenty of plays but he gives no real effort. Young lacks aggression and focus, he can't keep waiting for things it's the NBA and he has to be "locked in". Too many years coasting on superior talent vs the competition has made him weak.

Seems like most NBA players had the experience of superior talent to their competition growing up--and it didn't make the good ones weak.

The best we can hope for is when we play the Clippers Paul Pierce does us a favor and schools and roughs the hell out of James Young :p

Plenty underarchive though because they lack the drive. Young may not have the drive to succeed at this level time will tell.

Uhm....unlike lack of athleticism or hight or skill, etc, changing your mindset is what a mentor is actually for. The human brain is highly plastic. If Young has the desire and the right mentor, he can totally change his mindset on how he approaches the game, and improve his basketball IQ.

Sooo...Adderall, anyone (sarcasm) ;D?  All kidding aside, I think it'd be better for him to work with Pierce, instead, just because Paul is an old school guy, or even Michael Redd because things are different for lefties.  Plus, Pierce can give Ainge his assessment of Young and tell us whether or not he 'passes his test.' That way, we keep things more in-house, and James could spend the summer working out and playing pickup games with Pierce and KG, not to mention Paul George and/or Kobe (there was an article that said Pierce, KG, and George played pickup games in 2011, iirc, and that's when Demarre Carroll really put himself on the map, as Paul and Kevin then lobbied Danny heavily to get the now-Raptor as a replacement for Tony Allen.).  Man, what a job, lol ;D.

That's cool. Hope they don't play 1 on 1 much those will be very short games lol. ;D

...or H-O-R-S-E

It might make him a better rebounder while he rebounds for Durant.  ;D

More likely INbound rather than rebounds.  ;D

Young was always known to be a project player, 2 years minimum. But since he did so well in d league people are now let down....some people. Anyway he needs confidence and NBA playing time. He can get both over the next season, and when inserted into games he will have to make the best of his opportunities. But we all knew going into this that James was a project, stay the course.

He can improve on offense, but if he remains a crap defender, he shouldn't be expecting playing time.
