He can shoot it, but when he goes to the rim it's ugly. If there is someone there to give him body contact at the rim the things happen.
He misses, he gets knocked to the ground, his ego gets bruised.
I think he needs to learn to pump fake. But more than that he needs a floater, and he needs to stop short of the rim, because when he goes all the way to the hoop it ends badly.
Any other ideas for the kid to score when he gets but his man.

Bring Dwyane Wade in to coach Smart, Terry, and Young (if he lasts until the end of the year).
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

How to help james young finish at the rim:

Step 1:  buy a step ladder

Step 2:  place it under an nba rim

Step 3:  have james young climb said step ladder

Step 4:  while young Is standing on the ladder near the rim, get on the team bus, wave goodbye to James young and leave.

Now, he's finished at the rim ;D

He tends to drive to the right and then goes up with the left right into the defender and he is too weak to get the shot off or follow through and at least get a foul. He played better today but still missed a wide open 3 with nobody within 20 feet - Hunter wouldn't have missed that.

Maybe if he was tall (over 6 feet, the big time stuff), athletic (like some of those pro athletes in the Nationwide Basketball Association), and young (in his early twenties or so) he would be able to finish at the rim better. Adding 15-20 lbs. of muscle wouldn't hurt either.

Oh wait...

Neither would a functioning right hand.

indeed, one of the well known weaknesses of young is his inability to drive to his right. he always goes to the left.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I'm seeing Young as a 3 and no D kind of player. (And that's if he's hitting his 3.)

His feel for what's going on around him is weak. His reaction is step behind, especially on defense. In fact, he's the one that look's like the first year player out of the 4 kids we drafted. I know he's still young, but I can't see him being on the team come late October. He needs another 30-35 games in the D-league.

While I agree that that was frustrating, especially given the fact that he had just hit one from the same area moments before, Hunter has thrown up his share of awful shots, too, and both guys' fg%'s were atrocious, to be honest.  Sometimes the hardest shots are the ones where you have too much time to think.

Eh--Hunter's popped some airballs here in SL.

This game from Young was much, much better than he's been looking.

Probably a relief for all concerned.

Hey, Smart says he's gonna learn to go to his left much better after having his right-hand fingers bandaged up as they are--so why not wrap up Young's left hand for the remainder of the summer?
