The qualifications, I believe, were based on first or second generation, if I remember correctly.

Too bad Stevens is gonna be an assistant under Hollins rather than Pop.
I had the same thought. My hope, though, is that they're staying at the same hotel and will have time for Stevens to pick Pop's brain a little. I know there was that picture of the pair talking before a game last season and I remember an article claiming Pop enjoyed talking to Brad and helping him along.

I alos like the idea of Smart playing with Chris Paul. They're very different and I don't think Smart should be directly modeling Paul, but being around that personality and basketball IQ is good stuff.

If this goes well for Team World, we should
have no trouble getting by Team Asia and Team Australia.

All I need is Marcus Smart to break a knee cap and snap an ACL diving for a loose ball over Batum and under Ibaka in Johannesburg. That is all ....I...need.

They need to give this kid injury clauses in his next contract. No diving for loose balls in the preseason. Or practice.

Link? I can't seem to verify this anywhere.

Team Africa’s roster will include Miami’s Luol Deng; Portland’s Al-Farouq Aminu; Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo; Nicolas Batum of Charlotte; Bismack Biyombo of Toronto; San Antonio’s Boris Diaw; Minnesota’s Gorgui Dieng; Festus Ezeli of the NBA champion Golden State Warriors; Oklahoma City’s Serge Ibaka and Sacramento’s Luc Mbah a Moute.

So Team Africa is going to roll out a team of nothing but 10 Centers and Forwards?

I'm missing something. How is this Team "Africa"? Ante is from Greece, and Batum and Diaw are from France.

Isnt Ante's name really Adetokunbo? I don't know how the Greek turned a Yoruba name to a greek name. That is like changing Olajuwon to Orlando because it sounds similar.

Dennis Schroder's mom is African.  I believe Emmanuel Mudiay has African parents as well (I think he might even have been born in Africa).

They should have put those two on the African team so they could have a couple of guards.

surprised Mudiay is not on the team...

His parents gave the kids Greek names when they moved there so they'd fit in. Greece has a very similarly politicized issue with immigration when compared with the USA. I don't think Giannis was even a citizen until maybe a year or two ago.

Marcus Smart (hand) said he'll be out for a couple of weeks.

He will begin therapy following the time off. Smart has a splint on his hand right now and it sounds like he'll need to keep it on his hand for the rest of the month. Smart is already not going to play on Aug. 1 in South Africa, but he should be ready for training camp.

Marcus Smart (fingers) said that he was feeling "a lot better."

They’ve got me working on my motion, so everything’s feeling better," he said. Smart had to get five stitches and there is no timetable for his recovery. "Just right now not really rushing anything." As a result, Smart will not travel to Africa for an August 1 exhibition game.
