Ainge: Pressey will be waived today

"He has a very good future - he'll land on his feet," said the Celtics' director of basketball operations. "What I loved about Phil was his ability to not play for a couple opf games, but always be ready the next time he was called on.

"But it's really tough for us to waive Phil," said Ainge. "He's won over the hearts of his coaches, management and teammates."

At the time of this interview, Ainge had yet to actually waive the guard.

"We need to talk to Phil and his agent," said Ainge.

that was quick - according to Gary Washburn, the C's will waive Phil Pressey.

So no inclusion on the David Lee trade...I wonder what that means for Babb or Holmes?

Means Babb is going to be in Lee trade to make the salaries work instead of Pressey. Otherwise the Lee trade fails. Roster assuming the trades completed, 3 top rookies signed, and Thornton stashed:

Roster (15): Bradley, Crowder, ET, Hunter, Jerebko, Johnson, Mickey, KO, Rozier, Smart, Sully, IT, Young, Zeller, Lee, Holmes

Stashed (1): Thornton

Unsigned (1): Holmes

So if Cs stash Thornton overseas AND waive ET or Young, then there is room for a Holmes signing. Of course another trade could alter everything. The Cs could then even bring Pressey back, but I doubt it. Can't shoot.

Can I ask a question: do you REALLY think that Holmes is an upgrade over Turner?

I don't get this place sometimes... It's as if certain guy become hated with targets on their backs by Celtics fans.  Turner was a GREAT addition to this team, and he's a solid player.  Holmes has proven nothing.  But as it often is here in Celticsland, fans have a way of wanting to give a one-hit summer league wonder a guaranteed 4 year deal, but beat up on a guy (ie. Evan Turner).

All Turner did last year was basically.....well, do it all.  He played the PG position.  Played the wing.  2 Guard...  Whatever it took.  His game isn't the prettiest on the planet, but he was a near walking triple-double on some occasions.

So you suggest WAIVING him??  for nothing??  So we can pick up an undrafted FA and maybe stash him in Maine for several weeks?

I'm missing your logic...  Turner is a decent talent on a LOW contract (and shoot, for what guys just got on free agency this summer it literally looks like peanuts).

I don't get all the Turner hatred here...
I think ET > Holmes now. Don't think we're going to need ET as a ballhandler going forward, though he might be useful for another year. OTOH, he'll never be an efficient shooter and don't see much upside. Holmes is active, can rebound, and has a better outside shot. More of what I want at a SF. ET is a hybrid  jack-of-all-trades and a master of none. Good at creating his own shot and not very good at hitting it.

I'd prefer Holmes going forward, but if ET stays, I won't call for Danny's scalp. I could see Young going or staying or Holmes signing elsewhere too.

I don't hate anybody on our team. You'll never hear me crap on them even when they drive me nuts like some guys here do. I don't think that helps motivate people and it turns some players off. Boston's a tough town in that regard.

I wish Pressey good luck. I wish he could have developed a passable shot because he did other things well.

Poor Philly Phil, I was sure we wouldn't just send him off this way. Oh well, he's a millionaire who rarely played to earn it, he'll be okay!
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

He was a really solid 3rd string pg. I'm going to miss him.

Europe has little use for players who miss 2/3 of their shots.

Ran into @danielrainge , who's legit upset at having to waive Pressey. Thinks he can really play and loves him as a person. #business

I like Pressey overall, don't think he should've been playing as much as he did for us, which is in part why some animosity towards him is had (Stevens' fault really), but I'm indifferent on this development regardless.

He at least played hard for us, and for his small stature, was very active defensively, which was appreciated.

Solid backup point guard. I would rather have kept him and dealt Banks 2.0 for whatever you could get. He's going to have a nice 9-10 year career as a backup point.
the banks 2.0  thing is becoming as worn out as the lakers fans on the realgm board complaining about stern turn down the cp3 deal

He's our point guard. I'm going to support him
I trust Danny Ainge

Get ready for Rozier to be called Banks 3.0. If you've got a good schtick going, why change it?
