Can't wait to see this guy.

PJ3 is awful. Guy doesn't seem to care about basketball. Sad because he has real talent. I wasn't even mad about drafting Melo over him. A guy with his talent dropping that far just sucks I'm sorry

Green Teamers celebrate every move that's an obvious loss as a win.
Please explain how this is a loss.

I cannot fathom a way where this is a loss.

Ainge is paying a D Leaguer 2 million

Is it your money?

Between foulweatherfan's analysis and this retort, I'm loving this thread ;)

Everyone knows that Perry Jones has a ton of natural talent.  Whether or not he has the ability to maximize his level of talent is still very much in doubt.

For the price, and given where we are right now as a franchise, it seems well worth it to take the chance that Perry Jones is simply a late bloomer.

If he doesn't end up working out, it really doesn't amount to very much skin off our collective noses.

I hope he is James Young's replacement.

Quote
Boston Celtics: A

The Celtics have been preserving cap space for a move like this, which they are able to make before re-signing Jae Crowder and trading for David Lee. Jones remains an interesting prospect. He'll turn 24 in September and had some impressive moments in the first week of last season when the Thunder were battered by injuries, including a 33-point game on national TV.

After the hot start, though, Jones had posted a career-low 6.9 PER by season's end. He made just 47.6 percent of his 2-point attempts and saw his 3-point percentage drop from 36.1 percent to 23.3 percent, both in tiny samples. Although he was aggressive at times, too often he floated around the perimeter, where he provides little benefit. And although Jones has impressive defensive tools as a combo forward, he remains prone to mistakes.

The biggest shortcoming of this deal is that it's hard to see where Jones will play in a crowded Boston frontcourt, particularly if the Celtics see him as a stretch 4 rather than a wing. But Boston should be able to use training camp to figure out whether Jones still has rotation potential. If not, at worst paying the amount of his salary not covered by the cash received from the Thunder -- if any -- for a second-round pick probably won't be the worst investment.

Ainge is sick

He needs to be on the TV show

Hoarders

We get rid of trash ...Bass and Wallace ......and he bring in more homeless NBA players

I think you also said that Jerebko couldn't play in the NBA when you knocked that deal so you may not be the best judge of talent.  Leave the player evaluations to DA.

Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

I guess you missed the part where OKC is also sending cash?

Even though we got a young player, 2nd rd pick, and cash, I'm sure he will find something else wrong with the deal now.

So does this mean we have no chance of signing Holmes?

There is a decent chance that he gets signed but doesn't make the opening day roster.  He'll probably have to outplay Perry Jones III (easy) and Jordan Mickey (not as easy) to get the last roster spot.

Best-case scenario from the Celtics perspective is that they sign Holmes to a mostly unguaranteed deal, make him the last training cut so he can be assigned to Maine, and do a mid-season trade that creates a roster spot (creating a roster spot would be a collateral benefit, not the purpose of the trade) and sign him to an NBA contract before another team does.

Honestly, trading for PJ3 should be about as exciting as trading for Donte Green or Will Bynum.

We got a 2nd rounder for free. OKC is paying us his salary. If there's a 1% chance he improves, we win. If there's a 0% chance he improves, we win.

Exciting? No. But pleeeeease someone tell me how there is a downside.

Not to mention all the folks who crucified Ainge for not taking a flyer on Whiteside (who had been a mess for years)

He might end up being good, I doubt it, but we need depth at SF and we gave up nothing for him. Not fireworks by a long shot, but it's a good deal  :D

Why are some of you bashing PJ3? did we forget he's playing the same position as Kevin Durant... 23 years old still has plenty of promise and has showed he can contribute to a team in winning fashion during KDs absence. I didn't understand why he got burried at the end of the bench but I don't see that happening here. For everyone who was salvaging over Gerald Green I think this is a much better option for salary reasons, efficiency, and overall potential!! You wanted a wing now you got one
