Celtics acquire Perry Jones III from the Thunder

I'm unclear on why the Celts acquired a guy who will just spend the year on the bench or in the D-League.  We've got guys like that already.

Perry Jones is a young, talented SF who can score. That happens to be exactly what we need for very cheap. This is a great move by Ainge. PJ3 never got much of a chance in OKC under Brooks, and neither did any of the other prospects either. Once he played bigger minutes when Westbrook and Durant were down, he lit it up.

He scored when Westbrook and Durant were out, so who cares? I like PJIII honestly, and he adds some much needed length and athleticism that we have ZERO of. Hopefully Brad can turn him into a serviceable player.

Ah, so it's a luxury tax thing.  Got it.

Yeah they had to shed salaries to keep Kanter and the rest of their core and still avoid major luxury tax penalties. They had to move Lamb and PJ3, which they finally did. Both of those guys have talent, its just that OKC had to make choices here and move a few people.
