Other general managers have to know that Ainge is squeezed into a corner right now. With a full fifteen man roster for 2015 with no dead bodies (allowing for Young's youth as an excuse for his performance), and with 3-to-4 first round draft picks and four-to-five second round picks in 2016, the Celtics must :
let decent players go next year as free agents without compensation; or
find takers to trim the roster; or
find takers for the 2016 draft picks.
If I were a GM dealing with Ainge, I'd be offering 50 cents on the dollar right now in trades for players or draft picks, expecting Ainge to be willing to overpay.
Without finding takers for their players, the Celtics either have to get very young in 2016 by letting vets go (Lee, Turner, Jerebko), or dump young guys who haven't performed up to expectations (Young, Olynx). Let's hope Ainge finds takers to trim the roster while getting some compensation back.
