What Would a Successful Season for James Young Look Like?

He's still the youngest guy on the roster by a full year and played very little last season so this, to me, is basically going to be his rookie season. If he can earn 20 mpg averaging around 7-8 ppg with shooting splits around .420/.370/.700 I'd call that a very successful season.

10-15 minutes a game.

I don't care much about his stats. Just get his defense up to an acceptable enough level to stay on the court for 10-15 minutes. Provide some spot up shooting. I don't care much about the numbers. Avoid being dismal. He works his way into the rotation and is playing 10-15 minutes a game consistently by the end of the season and I'll be happy with his progress.

He is young, I like how he worked on his body this off season.   Looks like he needs to work on his shot the rest of the summer.

A successful season for Young will be one in which the C's pick up his option for two more years because at this point, if he looks as bad this season as he did last year and in this Summer League, then he could be a guy that doesn't get his option picked up for his last two years. The C's could be having 3-4 first rounders being added to the team next year. Young better show enough to make Danny think he is a better bet to develop than any of those players.

I think coming in and being a scorer for us.  I don't expect him to carry us but showing flashes and consistency as a scorer off the bench would be good this year.  Just show his talent.

20mpg, don't really care about stats, but more for the flow if the game and confidence. The buckets will come with time.

His third year option at 1.8 mil will almost certainly be picked up this October.  His 4th year option is only 2.8 mil so I'd expect it to be picked up next October unless he totally busts this season.

I've done some reaserch and am revising my expectations.

JJ Redick's 2nd season:
23 years old. 8mpg, 4.1ppg, .444/.395/.794

Aaron Afflalo's 2nd season:
23 years old. 16.7mpg, 4.9 ppg, .437/.402/.817

Danny Green's 2nd season:
23 years old. 11.5mpg, 5.1ppg, .486/.368

If he winds up having the career of any one of these guys, I think he'll have been a good pick by the Celtics. All of these guys were much older in their 2nd seasons and didn't have terribly impressive 2nd seasons and all of them were traded by their original teams before they fully developed.

Not starting the season in the D-league would be a step in the right direction for his confidence. Just being a rotation player with the C's, stay healthy, and being allowed to develop, maybe scoring 6-7 a game.

He's a perfect example of a player that needed another year in college.
