For a second round pick.

I've always thought the Celtics could use a Zaza-type player as a third string center whose job is to defend big guys and occasionally hit people.  I don't think Colton Iverson will be that guy.

EDIT: This probably clears up playing time to make John Henson less available.

Forget third string, he could split time with Zeller and possibly start on the C's.

Zaza would be good enough to start, but I think a cheaper player with some of his attributes who can be an enforcer would be a useful element to have.

Not exactly a great consolation prize, but Zaza is an NBA quality player at least (unlike many players on the Mavs).

Zaza is a dirty player.  Never been a fan of his.
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

I hate him.   Public menace on the court.

That pick is going to be good. This means they're going to go for it this year and not tank. I don't think Zaza makes them all that much better, and he's just another injury-prone guy (iirc) to add to a team full of injury-prone guys.

Good sign that the Mavs are actually trying to have a decent season.  Bodes well for the Celts getting that pick.

Yes, thats the most important takeaway here.
As a side note, I always liked Zaza. Thought he'd be good on the Cs -- wish we'd signed him as a backup a few y ears ago.

Celtics fan for life.

The Celtics probably need a dirty player at the end of their bench.

JR Smith is as dirty as they come but I don't want him.

You're welcome, Dallas.  ;D

All joking aside, I think it's a solid backup plan. Pachulia will atleast be tough, can hit midrange and rebound at a decent rate. That's better than signing someone unproven.

Although, bummer that we can't do this deal. 2nd rounder is all it took?

Why would the C's ever need or want a dirty player?  No thanks.  I have no interest in guys like Zaza, Matt Barnes, etc.  There is a difference between playing tough and being a punka$$.

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
So there lineup is now:
Zaza
Dirk who can barely move now
Chandler Parsons coming back from microfracture surgery
Wes Matthews coming back from an Achilles tear

I think they would be trying to sell assets at the trade deadline to make sure they are worse than 7th
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19
