In the end the point is a bit moot. Why? Because the amount of cap space we have remaining I think it's a bit higher than what our remaining TPE would've been, which was the Prince TPE of about $7M. The window to use the cap room is much shorter than the Prince TPE, but the effectiveness of a TPE outside of free-agency is usually low. Plus a $7M TPE is not all the valuable anyways.
What we turned all that into was Amir/Jerebko expiring deals & 2nd year non-guaranteed, which is a longer window to use in a trade. It's not as powerful as someone looking for a salary dump, BUT it allows teams to trade higher salaried players to us. So that point is a bit of a wash... but, next offseason we have two useful trade chips if needed.
And in addition to this we gained Lee for Wallace, who saved us from needing to either stretch him (which I doubt we would do once Harris was off the table) and from a potential 1st round pick just to dump him if that was of interest. With Lee we actually have someone of plus value who can be part of a packaged deal and the side benefit that he might stick around if for some reason it works out somehow. I'm not a fan of his, so take this as an objective observation on flexibility and value. And hey, if we make the playoffs... at least we have more talent and make the playoffs more interesting (I'll close my eyes while we're on the defensive end while Lee is on the floor).
