ESPN sources say that the Sacramento Kings have offered Wes Matthews a three-year deal in the $45 million range
I don't understand this at ALL.
What don't you understand that can't be explained by the idea that the Kings are stupid?
This isn't a Kings issue though. The media doesn't care for it, multiple teams interested in him, he's looking for a $15M per contract and is seemimgly going to get it.
Just don't understand it.
One rumor was that the Mavs wanted to sign him for 10-12 million/year and were offering 12. The Raptors were interested, but perhaps not now that are giving Demarre Carroll 4 years/60 million.
Kings are giving him a Godfather contract offer that he can't refuse, so he's signing with a team that is a disaster.
Kings are offering a stupid contract because the Kings are stupid. Matthews is signing the contract because he likes money. How is that hard to understand? What more needs to be explained?
Read the previous post, and as explained what's hard to understand is multi-faceted. Teams offering a lot of money (that the Kings are offering the most is inconsequential), the media's lack of care or focus on his injury when taking into account how historically this injury has "performed".
So yes, it's very hard for me to understand that teams are taking this big of a risk on him, unless they know something we don't know, and I'm a bit doubtful on that regard.
The only explanation is that you can take risks this year because failure is not devastating with the cap increase, but even then a bit more prudence should be expected.
