This would be wonderful if the Knicks miss out on Monroe, Love, Chandler, Ellis, Dragic , and Aldridge. Add to that the drafting of Porzingis and Melo is going to ask out much earlier than the trade deadline.
31 year old Melo becoming available for trade would be awesome for the Celts. Exactly the kind of star you might be able to get for a pu pu platter. And heading into free agency next summer with Melo on board could actually make the Celts competitive for guys who can vault the team to contention, or something close to it.
Except where we forget that Melo has a no trade clause, so its up to Melo to decide whether or not he wants to leave the Knicks where hes marketing himself, and providing media coverage/spotlight for his wife and himself.
I always thought when Jackson was proclaiming the need to not draft players who want to 'brand,' themselves, I felt that was a veiled insult to Melo. Who has tried to expand his ventures outside of basketball, and more into marketing himself as a mogul and businessman.
He's already hinted a number of times that he's p---ed with Phil Jackson and the Knicks and may ask out soon. He would be the one to ask them to move him, no need to worry about the no-trade clause.
Disagree. You guys don't understand what Melo is trying to build for himself. He understands basketball isn't forever. I was watching a video where Melo is talking about business ventures, and different subjective options open on the horizon for him and his family. His wife, Lala Vasquez, loves it in New York.
Melo stated family, money, and rings were all things considered when re-signing. I don't know if Melo would ask to be traded immediately after one or two or even three years. That's a hasty decision to make, and one his wife who stressed the idea of staying in New York, would probably find hard to stomach.

Exactly. I totally see us going all in to trade for him, and the Knicks, lacking draft picks and young players, should jump on our assets.
He just had knee surgery and doesn't run the floor like he used to. I would be hesitant and wait til the deadline to make a move like that, see how old he looks...
Pretty sure Ainge will evaluate that to his best of knowledge. I trust Ainge even though I'm disappointed this year.
I think Wyc needs to stop talking about fireworks as if its a lure for fans. Celtics have one of the most loyal fanbases.
