What is his status? Is it unrealistic to think this guy might be able to play again?

Wasn't he spotted working out with Sully and Evan Turner recently?

still injured. no.

i can see a team taking a flier on him to play 10 minutes a night. if you are a contender, then having a credible center for 10 good minutes off the bench can be important.

for the celtics? i dont think he adds much to the team. now, if the docs say "he might heal and his knees might not fall off, maybe" then, why not give him a try.

but even then, let's keep expectations very, very low.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Thanks. It was an interesting read.

I am not sure why (other than the personal issues) that we wouldn't want to give the guy a look-see especially with a high percentage of fans willing to just let the young kids play and see what happens since we won't probably get any "big" free agents. Let's say by next year with the right coaching and peer group he is able to become a serviceable big guy. I think it can be a win-win. I'll bet he can be had for cheap bucks maybe a 2-yr deal with team option for 3. If id doesn't work then no big loss. If it works then Danny is a genius.

I really doubt he makes a comeback. Even if his injury and personal issues magically disappeared, you're looking at basically a 27-year-old rookie who hasn't played competitive ball in years. His skillset will not be NBA-caliber, and even if healthy it isn't like he'll suddenly be a dominant athlete again. A couple years ago I thought it was smart for Miami to roll the dice, but by now it's probably too late.

If he can give you 10 minutes a night (and only 10 minutes a night), and sit out the second game of back-to-backs, he's worth minimum money for a team that has nothing up front, would fill up a roster spot, and probably wouldn't impact the W/L column very much.  Danny could sell it as a year to demonstrate some level of health.

In other words, if the team can't get anything done in trades, or with major free agents, he'd be a perfect signing.

I agree.

At this stage, I consider signing Odin a more serious proposal than Oden.
