Like ainge said he wants to stay afloat as far as getting a significant player.  He doesnt want to sacrifice our future to do that.  So i trust he'll make the right moves that wouldnt do that.
There's no future to sacrifice if we sign someone.  With the cap rising 20 mil next season, it kind of puts pressure on us to sign SOMEONE this year when there are only a handful of teams with max money.  Next year, every team in the league will have max money... good luck signing someone when you're coming off a 30 win lottery season.

We need to do everything we can to add talent immediately.

Cleveland was a 33 win team that was able to lure James and Love.  The Lakers are a 21 win team going after the league's top FAs.  Going after useless players is nothing more than going after useless players.  Gerald Green doesn't get you to the Eastern Conference finals.  Amir Johnson doesn't get you to the Eastern Conference finals.

Go big and make a crazy effort at bagging the big fish, or go home and save your money for another day.

Are you comparing the Celtics to L.A. and a team that was gifted three first overall picks and were fortunate to have the best player in the league grow up in Ohio?

I'm pointing to a couple of obvious examples of bad teams looking at/getting blue chip free agents, instead of settling for the Gerald Greens of the world as their day one targets.

Interesting note that Davis got the "DRose" max contract. 145 million/5 year.

Was that ever really in doubt?

The guy is easily the best < 24 year old player in the NBA and arguably already a top 5 NBA player.

right our situation is completely different than LA or Cleveland.  We cant do what they did.  We have to build more like the hawks but in our own way.  We are like a cross between the hawks, golden state and san antonio.

Top free agents never want to come to Boston.  The only way for Ainge to get them is to bring them in together.  He can't do that if he's busy luring in stiffs to take up cap space.

Ainge needs to either shoot for the elite players or save the space for next year.

I made an offhand post earlier today where I suggested signing Wade and Love, and trading for Cousins.  While I was mostly joking about 3 moves that are 99.999999999999% unlikely to happen, the underlying point was dead on, IMO.

If we use up our entire cap space we basically rule ourselves out of getting kevin love.  If we have cap space we still have gerald wallace and young players to trade for a guy like Kevin Love plus cap space to pay him more money.

This is why guys like amir johnson and gerald green make some sense vs going all in on a guy like monroe.  It depends on whether kevin love is open to talking to us though.

Geral Green has no 'd'.  How does that make Boston a better team?

He gives us options as far as trades?  I dont know.  Im just using Gerald Green as an example of lesser free agents.

First, who said anything about Green? We're talking Middleton, Harris, and Monroe. If the Celtics can't even get those guys, then that is worrisome. And I think the team you're looking to compare the Celtics situation is the Rockets trading for Harden. Not LA signing being able to pick and choose free agents based on geography or Cleveland being super lucky.

Just because it wasn't reported, doesn't mean that the Celtics didn't meet/called anyone.

this is why i hate the media and fans in general sometimes.  I'm just saying because there is a bigger picture in mind here.  You don't just sign guys with no plan in site.  They don't grasp the bigger picture.  It obviously depends on whether a guy like Kevin Love will even talk to us.

I'm correct in what I'm saying too if anyone takes the time to read what ainge and i said here.
