Seeing these threads about Monroe and Harris at first is a positive. It shows that the Green Teamers have set more realistic expectations which I'm happy about. It shows the message is getting through to them that no top level free agent would ever want to play in Boston. Good. Now here is the downside of this. Harris and Monroe make this team good enough to be the 8th seed. A yearly 8th seed is the treadmill. If you are not going to do anything with those assets such as trade them then Harris and Monroe helps take out the dusty old treadmill from two years ago. I mean I guess according to NBA rules you need to spend the money somehow. I just don't see the logic. I would rather just barely hit the salary floor and tank harder next year.

You need to trade the pieces for more draft picks if needed. If they sign Monroe I would trade him ASAP. Same with Harris. Trade them for picks and get assets.

Don't worry they have a star in Marcus Banks 2.0!  ;D

The C's aren't going to tank. There's a bigger chance you'll see Love and Durant in green next season than that.

Yes if you mean that he will be a star in China then I agree. He's out of the league before the age of 30.

Monroe + Harris + the development of the existing young players is FAR better than an #8 seed, which they had last year without Harris and Monroe.

You have to consider that free agents want to join contenders, which the Celtics will be with Harris and Monroe.

monroe and harris would be attractions to free agents in 2016 . They would also be solid trade chips, and both are 25 or under meaning they can still grow as players .

If the cap wasn't rising so much next year , I would be hesitant as well, but we need to add talent and get players that can attract free agents next year when just about every team has cap space.

They should do it. Does not mean that the more sensible action will prevail. They'll probably sign a free agent to make green teamers happy. Its all about that revenue instead of winning a title. Slow and steady...tank hard and win later.

Exactly.

If they strike out on FA's they probably should but they won't. C's future contender status will be determined by trader Danny.

Um, yeah, except for the whole, "the cap is rising dramatically so the Celts will still have space to add impact players in the future."

The argument for adding Harris and Monroe, basically, is that you have to build something before the really good players will want to come to your team and actually stick around.  The Celts probably won't get the chance to do it through the draft, so they have to try and do it through FA or trade.

Harris and Monroe are second tier players, at least right now, but they'd immediately be the best players on the team and provide a framework for future success.

I think Monroe and Harris would make us much better than the 8th seed. I think we are the 8th seed without adding any free agents.

The treadmill might exist for 8th seed teams, but it doesn't exist for teams with the stash of picks we have to improve the team. Getting the 8th seed doesn't mean we are stuck there forever. Dallas, Minnesota and more importantly Brooklyn.

I do agree that if we sign both they could eventually be trade chips (depending on what type of deals they sign). I think either could easily be the main asset, along with draft picks traded for a star.

In general I hate the purgatory/treadmill idea because it uses the idea that teams a team is maxed out and can't get better. We are extremely young, with a bunch of picks, why are you just assuming we will stay the same?

DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

You two are the biggest trolls on earth. Your non-sensical hatred of our players is so far beyond reason its not even worth responding to. But for some reason i hope that you'll come around. I don't know why I bother.
2019 Historical Draft - Golden State

C - Bill Russell/Joel Embiid
PF - Giannis Antetokounmpo/Tommy Heinsohn
SF - Kevin Durant/Billy Cunningham

Bring in talent, more talent will join.   Those two will make us better.

Monroe was a 15 and 10 guy with Drummond clogging things up for him.  I think he can be a 20 and 12 guy with KO or Zeller playing more on the outside with him.  He's a true low post scorer.  Those guys are hard to find in the NBA today.
