If the Celtics were to somehow get Brook Lopez now that he is a UFA. Would that send the Nets into a complete rebuild?  Also with the contracts of Johnson and D-Will I don't believe they would have any $ for other FA.  I know grasping at straws and counting on others failure to help us out, but if Lopez could every stay health he is not all that bad either.

Given Lopez' health history, and the limited ways the Nets can add to their roster (few trade chips, taxpayer version of the MLE), I think the Nets retaining Lopez is a good thing for the Celtics.

Put differently, I think that the Nets' getting Lopez increases the odds of the Nets tanking.

This idea has been kicked around a lot on several threads, including by me.  I personally like the idea. Most seem to reject it, saying Lopez is too injury prone, bad passer, bad rebounder, over-paid.  I think when you compare his stats to a guy like Monroe, they make a fair point.  I do feel that Lopez would be about the same benefit as Monroe in our lineup, and when you factor in the damage to the Nets in the process, makes it worth considering.  Early indications are that he plans to re-up with the Nets, but stay tuned...

Posted it in a bunch of threads about Lopez already. Cs really cant lose here, as even if the nets sign him and he stays healthy, they have to wildly overpay him and he continues to clog the cap.

If the Cs don't sign him, they at least need to make sure the Nets max him out for as long as possible.
We're the ones we've been waiting for.

It would be an Aurbachian move by Ainge, I would totally do it. The damage to the Nets alone makes it worth it, but considering we don't have many options at landing a center, and he salary cap is going up soon, it's worth it just to acquire Lopez. He's a better low post scorer than Monroe imo.

I'd stay completely away from Lopez. He isn't the type of five that could flourish in Stevens system.

Right last name, wrong first name.  If the C's go after a Lopez, I'm hoping for Robin.  It won't cost us as much money and he is a presence in the middle that can be intimidateing.  This is from a March 2014 B/R report:

"What this team needed was insurance. Someone willing to do the grunt work.

Lopez welcomed that challenge before it was even assigned.

"My biggest focus is being that last line of defense," he said at his introductory press conference last summer, via Joe Freeman of The Oregonian. "Blocking shots, discouraging plays at the rim, deterring drives to the basket. I'm here to play defense."

He wasn't lying. He's tallied a career-best 1.7 blocks a night, more than the franchise has seen since Greg Oden averaged 2.3 in 2009-10.

Lopez's rim presence has been as discouraging as he said it would be. For as many shots as he's swatted away, he's changed even more. His 42.0 field-goal percentage allowed at the rim ranks fourth among all players facing at least five such shots a game, via NBA.com's Spor**** player tracking data.

"He’s given us everything we hoped for on the defensive end," Blazers coach Terry Stotts said, via Hardwood Paroxysm's Jordan White. "Both as a stabilizing force in the paint, setting the defensive mindset, and as a communicator."
"There's sharks and minnows in this world. If you don't know which you are, you ain't a shark."

I don't think that you have to worry, he's as good as gone in my opinion. Toronto, Milwaukee, Lakers, Celtics, pistons and even the Mavs if they don't get Aldridge or Jordan will be offering him deals.

I don't see him staying with Brooklyn
