From the Boston Globe . Thought there was some interesting stuff here .

Apparently we offered Brooklyn's 2016 pick in an attempt to move up for Winslow , not sure how high we were trying to move up by offering that Brooklyn pick . I found that kind of surprising

Quote
The Celtics doggedly attempted to move up in Thursday?s draft so they could pick Duke forward Justise Winslow. A source said they offered several teams ?multiple picks,? including next year?s unprotected first-round pick that they acquired from the Nets.

-Smart was apparently not offered in any of the draft day trades because that would have been a step back according to those in the organization.

Quote
Several team sources said Celtics point guard Marcus Smart ? whose name was widely reported to be a part of trade discussions in the days leading up to the draft ? was never offered in a deal on Thursday.

?If we?d thrown in Marcus Smart, we probably could have done some deals,? a team source said. ?But we probably would have taken a step back.?

- Monrore= we might not want to overpay for Monroe , but apparently he is only seeking a 2 year deal, but says he wants to play for a contender in a different article here
http://www.sbnation.com/2015/6/28/8860053/2015-nba-free-agents-rumors-greg-monroe-brandon-knight-tim-duncan-kevin-garnett

- Also have interest in Millsapp

Quote
?We?re well-positioned to get any free agent that moves, but a lot won?t move,? one team source said. ?It?s going to be tough.?

The belief is that top-level big men will return to their current teams. And those who do land elsewhere are considered more likely to be swayed by the chance to join a championship contender ? a status the Celtics remain several steps from.

So the focus, then, would turn toward second-tier players such as Pistons big man Greg Monroe, who averaged 15.9 points and 10.2 rebounds last season and is expected to seek a max contract. A team source said that although the Celtics will gauge those opportunities as well, there is some unease about overpaying in search of quick fixes.

There is some interest within the organization in forward Paul Millsap, who is still generally classified in that second tier despite making two consecutive All-Star teams with the Hawks.
Ultimately, though, the Celtics will not truly know where they stand with potential targets until courtships ramp up this week.

That's what I read too. Most of this stuff is rumors people need to understand.  DA has said countless times in the past teams call and want our best players and then somehow it becomes a rumor that we are offering them.  C's are not stupid. They wouldn't offer up Marcus.

If Smart wasn't offered in addition to the pick(s), that's why it didn't happen. Which confirms my belief that we made several major mistakes that night and didn't make a single reasonable offer. I'd take an unproven Winslow over Smart 8 days of the week, and I really like Smart. You just can not teach what Winslow has.

I disagree.  This is the issue with the media in general. The average fan and person is not that well informed.   There is some intelligent life out there but the average media person is not trustworthy either.  Never was.  Am I the only person amazed at how clueless the media coverage has been about our draft? They never get better either.  It's a shame too because there are intelligent people out there and some of these people are taking up space and jobs.

The celtics obviously saw things differently and I can see why.  They are intelligent.  If the celtics had traded Marcus to move up that would have been a mistake. They also had a very fine draft.

I can't handle these posts from you. Do you truly believe Winslow will not be better than Smart? How do you feel about Smart's inadequacy to get to the rim (his only offensive ability)? Previously undisclosed, undiagnosed/trivial ankle issue?

Yes I do think Marcus is more valuable. He was the 6th pick in a strong draft class. Trading Marcus to move up would have solved nothing and put us in worse position.  The celtics have a plan I understand.  They are building.  They aren't trying to do what the average fan wants which is a failing philosophy.

You didn't answer my questions at all. He was sixth pick in a much crappier draft, and Winslow fell hard due to poor decision-making. Why do you think Smart will be better? And what makes you think he will be able to attack in the league?

Edit: Building? What are we building? We build through trades, not draft or FA.. and we failed to do that again this year. Next year will be the exact same situation. We will soon be regressing, not rebuilding.

2 years max contract sounds ok to me for Monroe (Obviously get it cheaper if ya can) If we can't get LMA, Love, Gasol or Cousins. By this time next year he would be an expiring and might be useful in a trade for an even better player. We have the money to spend and no real advantage in keeping it for next year as everyone will have money to spend then.

This is the whole point.  We are building something.  You do build through the draft and free agency and making "smart" trades.  Trading Marcus and a boatload of picks to move up 7 slots is not a smart trade.

You build through building an environment and atmosphere that players want to play in.  You don't just make trades for the sake of it with no plan in sight.

This is my whole point. DA has said these things himself if you listen to him for years yet the media doesn't even listen to what he says. If you look at what he does that is what he does.  Then these media people are like i'm so shocked and surprised.  I get it. I'm rarely shocked or surprised because I understand what he's trying to do.

Then people think i'm the one being the jerk when they don't even listen or have a clue what I'm saying either.  I listen to what the celtics try to do. That's the whole point.

A lot of fans are in their own circles of people adn don't even listen or research it.  They think their world is the celtics world.

It's why people clamor for Greg Oden that  year.  I wanted Durant. I was one of the few. It's no different.  It's why people boo the draft because they have no clue what's going on.

Last year's draft was not considered crappy. Wiggins / Parker / Embiid were all considered potential franchise players. Gordon and Exum were both highly rated. Then came Smart.

After his freshman year, Smart likely would have gone #2 overall until he went back to school.

I like Winslow too, but Smart is a similarly rated prospect. As a rookie he played outstanding defense, and may have been playing most of the year severely hampered by his ankle.

As a freshman, Smart averaged 15-6-4-3 and got to the line for 6.5 FTA.
Winslow was around 13-6-2-1 with 4 FTA.

I agree Winslow should have gone higher, but higher than Smart did? And was the draft really stronger? All very debatable.

And then you have to consider, are you suggesting we should have traded Smart AND picks for the rights to Winslow?

Name one significant draft pick we have had since Pierce (who slipped to us). And 7 slots in this draft meant a lot. If you believe Rozier is comparable to Winslow, I'd love to know why.

Name one significant FA we have signed in recent years.. you can go back that far, if you'd like.

That is not the way our team works, and the one major trade we had happened with a future all-star PF (best post-moves in league) as the centerpiece, with a good old pal of DA's.

You're discussing a 2.5/3 deep-draft, when we are discussing a stud taken at 10.

Yes, that is what I'm suggesting. When you have absolutely no options of signing significant FAs, literally ever, you overpay where you can.

I think the OP got the drift of the  Monroe story a bit wrong.  He's going to talk to 5 teams, none of whom are contenders.  We're one of them.

Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers

I think Rozier is a similarly rated prospect to Winslow.   IT's more the price was just too steep though.  Ainge was relieved and I don't blame him.  He did the right thing.  He felt it in his gut and did the right thing.  Ainge will explore moves but ultimately usually does the right thing.  I don't think this is any different.

Oden is a guy fans were chanting for.  I wanted Durant at the time but wouldn't surprise me to see Ainge take a flier on a guy like Oden now on the cheap. Now he might be worth it but again if Ainge does that he will explore all avenues.

Witht he draft we really dont know but I like Rozier's game.  Right now he could end up better than Winslow and we might look back and say DA was really smart there.   Time will tell though.  No one knows that for sure right now but that's what my gut says.

Fans thought we wanted Embiid last draft and everyone was disapointed. How did that work out?  I didn't think he was worth trading up for and good thing he didn't fall to us either. This is really no different.  I wanted Marcus.  It might work out. It might not.

The media hypes up this stuff.  People buy into it when it's not usually what's going on.  I dont listen to A Sherrod Blakely. I know better.
