Carmelo Anthony feels “completely hoodwinked and betrayed by Phil Jackson’’ after the Knicks traded Tim Hardaway Jr. and selected European project Kristaps Porzingis with the fourth pick of the draft, according to a radio report by ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith.

The report cited sources close to Anthony, who is currently in Las Vegas for his wife La La’s birthday.

“All they said was he’s furious, he’s livid, he feels completely hoodwinked and betrayed by Phil Jackson,’’ Smith said. “He feels like he was lied to and sold a bill of goods. He’s willing to concede he wanted his money, but he didn’t know it would be like this and this bad. He can’t believe the second season for Phil Jackson he has to look forward to being worse than last season was.”

When asked Friday about Anthony’s reaction to the Porzingis pick, Jackson noted Anthony attended the Latvian’s abbreviated workout Monday. He said he texted Anthony about the pick, but didn’t reveal anything more.

The question is whether selecting Porzingis jibes with Anthony’s advancing age (31) and limited window as the foundation of a title contender.

“Carmelo’s always on my mind. He’s our favorite son,” Jackson said. “But the second most important thing is what we do for this franchise. That has to be a consideration. I let Melo know that when we made this choice.  We anticipate it’s going to be rough, whether we have a 19-year-old KP or 19-year-old whoever.”

Anthony’s frustration with the Jackson regime would be nothing new. The Post reported in December he was so depressed about the team’s losing record, he would consider waiving his no-trade clause if the Zen Master came up with a deal.

Thought this myself this morning when I read these reports. Its extremely unlikely, but if NY is going full rebuild they could get some nice young talent for Melo. However, I'm not sure how many contenders could afford him and have the youth to get him. Melo signed with NY to be the man in a win now environment. He's certainly not going to be winning anything soon with the roster they have.

As soon as they made the pick last night, I thought they would be trading Porzingis, and maybe to us.

Kristaps is 2-3 years away with his slight frame. He might grow into it, but it's gonna take some time, something that's in short supply with Melo.

I'm having a hard time thinking that they are keeping them both.

I don't think this is a question for now. I think this is a question to be asked based on how well or badly NYK do in free agency. Big name free agents generally make their decisions in first two weeks of free agency so we should have a pretty clear picture of the situation soon.

For now though, too much is still to be determined.

I wonder if the C's would be interested in Melo if we were to land Love. Thats not a whole lot of defense though.

Everything Phil has done since re-signing Melo indicates he's operating with Melo as opposed to operating for Melo. Basically, I don't get the impression at all that Phil is looking to maximize his time with Melo; rather, he looks to be building something sustainable in New York. If Melo is a part of that, great, if not, well, at least he got his money and can force a trade to wherever he wants.

like i said in another post...   Sully and AB  for Porzingis

Melo gets players for short term, we clear up some logjams and get a huge upside guy that can ease his way in.

You gonna get two guys trying to hog the ball and one headcase in one team.

lol

The Knicks didn't tank a whole season to trade away their prized lottery pick for Avery Bradley and Jared Sullinger, Melo's wishes be [dang]ed.

That's right......!.....Danny needs to do the same.......clear out all but three or four guys that might be useful to help tank .  Bring in the D league  and new guys .......head Gordon the lottery pick.

Stay at it ........make CBS buy in or leave.

It is entirely possible that Phil Jackson is a cagier exec than anyone is giving him credit for. The narrative has been that he's kind of a dinosaur that loves big-butted, low post players and hates three pointers, but his moves so far kind of contradict that. Picking the Zinger is bold and correct. The fact he got a first for Tim Hardaway Jr is a borderline miracle.

I'm inclined to think he moves Melo. It's the best thing for the Knicks. Melo's age just doesn't line up with the Knick's timeline. Houston, Dallas, and the Clippers are the only team I can think of that might work/want Melo.

I can see Miami moving Winslow and other pieces for Melo.
