Is it really in the best interest of Melo or the Knicks to use two of the last years of his prime during a rebuild?

Tanking for a pick next year doesn't work because the Raptors have their pick, but they don't need to completely tank if we work a deal with them.

We can give them one player/item from each group:
Group A: Avery Bradley (3 years 7 million a year), Gerald Wallace (1 year 11 million)
Group B: Jared Sullinger, Kelly Olynyk, Tyler Zeller
Group C: Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier, James Young, Jae Crowder, or freedom from Jose Calderon's contract
Group D: Marcus Thorton, Phil Pressey, Chris Babb
Group E: 2016 1st rounder (Dallas), 2016 1st rounder (Nets)
Group F: 2016 1st rounder (Wolves), 2016 1st rounder (Celtics)
Group G: 2017 1st rounder (Memphis), 2018 1st rounder (Nets)

In the end, I would offer them

Bradley, Sullinger, Thorton, 2016 1st rounder (Nets), 2016 1st rounder (Wolves), 2017 1st rounder (Memphis

For

Melo and Calderon (first year absorbed into trade exemption, second year stretched)

Then I turn around and offer a package of one player/item from group A, C, and G for Bledsoe, because it seems like they may like Knight better than Bledsoe, and they have other young guards that they like at their other guard position (Booker, Bullock, Goodwin).

Maybe a deal like Wallace, Young, and the 2018 Nets 1st rounder, plus a few seconds for Bledsoe

Lineup:
Bledsoe
Smart
Melo
Olynyk
Zeller

Bench
Thomas
Rozier
Hunter
Mickey
Crowder
Jerebko
Turner

Seems like a decent amount of time was put into the post. However, please please please please please Danny don't give up the bank and the future of the Celtics for an inefficient gunner. This trade would strip away a big chunk of our "role players" to put around a "star." Also we would be giving up so many swings of the bat to get better.

Carmelo is an overrated player in my opinion, and the Knicks will not win with him as their superstar. This was before he sat the season (mostly by choice from what I hear) with an injury as he is entering the the downward march of his career.

PS- Always a fun idea to get a star, but I find it humorous your name is DefenseWinsChamps, while your argument is trading away our defensive core in favor of an inefficient injured gunner who is on the wrong side of 30, coming off an injured season.

Maybe you were listening to Mike & Mike this morning b/c after Broussard talked about Melo I thought... hmmm maybe he's a good target.

However.....

In the end, I would offer them

Bradley, Sullinger, Thorton, 2016 1st rounder (Nets), 2016 1st rounder (Wolves), 2017 1st rounder (Memphis

For

Melo and Calderon (first year absorbed into trade exemption, second year stretched)

this ^^ is insane. It's arguably more than Denver got for Melo, what.... 6 years, 1 knee surgery and probably 400 games ago.

Legler made the point that at this point Melo isn't the same player he was even 2 years ago, doesnt' run up court, etc.

Now some of that can (and prob. is) frustration with losing, but the point is still valid. I don't think that given the talent level on the current C's roster you sell the farm for Melo.

I think Bradley OR Sully, Thornton and the MEM and BOS firsts are all I'd give up (and that still might be too much).

I would trade IT, Bradley, Sullinger/KO, and combo of picks for Carmello.

Bargani and Wallace may have to be mixed in the deal.

First off they aren't trading Carmelo. Thank god for that because he is NOT worth what you people are suggesting. Ridiculous why we would want a no-defense jack up 30 shots a game player. Yes he is pretty good but what's next are we going after Kobe Bryant? They we can have the two of them jack up 60 shots a game and we will play 3 others to try to get rebounds and play defense on the other 5.

Can you think of anyone who would've wanted it without wanting other assets as compensation? I can't. He's terrible.
