Just in: Heard from my source that David West will not exercise his player option and will become a free agent. Story coming soon.

This is actually relatively surprising, since he's passing up a ton of money he's probably not going to make back. That said, West must see the writing on the wall in Indiana and realize that he's probably not winning a ring there anytime soon.

Either that or he's opting out to re-sign for a longer deal... which doesn't really jive with Bird's comments about shifting the team in a new, more athletic, uptempo direction, unless he wants him around as a "veteran presence."

West is probably thinking if he stays in Indiana he'll be forced to accept a reserve role, and he'll probably try to find a starting gig on the open market or else play as a reserve for a team that is really, really good -- e.g. San Antonio, Cleveland, LAC.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

I'm still mad that West didn't sign with us that one year it was rumored. If he had, C's probably get another ring.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

The pacers are starting to look like one of those what if teams. They seemed poised to be good for a long time with Paul George, George Hill and a young and improving Hibbert a few years ago along with some solid vets surrounding them. Now Hibbert has regressed and may leave, George is coming off a serious injury and West may leave. They also haven't really added any young impressive talent with the mid to late round picks. Where do they go from here?

Wonder if they regret the Kawahi Leonard for George hill trade…..

"The age. More than anything the age. You go from trying to win a championship year after year after year, and then at some point you know the window is going to close...I felt like the window [in Indiana] was a little different. Boston may have been able to compete that first year, but now it’s different. That was part of the thought process: How long would they keep that group together? And ultimately at this stage I just wanted to be part of a team that was going to compete these next few years for a championship."

He was a BEAST during his last few years with New Orleans.  Solid player.
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

I think he'll be a bench player next season. Declined a lot last two years.

Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Zwerl whirl?

League source: David West is "very likely" to sign with the Knicks come FA. "He knew that before he chose not to opt in" with the Pacers.

West will be excellent for the Triangle. Smart player. Can pass, can shoot. A bit like Karl Malone's role on that 2004 Lakers team. That is exciting. Looking forward to that.
