I've been a Celtic fan since 1956, and I believe it is a special franchise  I've learned it takes more than physical talent to win championships. Putting team first, playing with effort and concentration and leading by example have been key to every Celtic title. Too much of what I've seen from Cousins shows that he lacks all these. Yes, I know some things change, but those don't. Winning in the NBA is not the same as winning at fantasy NBA. Despite the talent disparity, I wouldn't trade Smart for Cousins one-for-one.

Noted.. .

So, can we get back to discussing how we can acquire Cousins now?

Stevens does seem to struggle when faced with coaching talented players. I'll give you that.

FYI, this thread was started by a Knicks fan. I know this because no Celtics fan would not want Cousins.

Sweet where were we again. Oh right, TRYING TO OBTAIN COUSINS AND/OR OTHER BIG MEN, who can protect the rim, rebound and score in Celtics green!  ;D

I have been a Celtic fan since 1956. And that history is a big part of why I want nothing to do with this guy. He will never win a title.

Kudos for being with the Celtics since '56!  You've got me beat - I've been a fan since Russell's last championship in '69.

I have to disagree on Cousins - I want him!  I'm putting my faith in Stevens and Ainge.  I think  they would be able to reign him in.  Let's remember he's only 24 so he should mature a bit going
forward.  He's an exceptional talent and when he's on I think he is the best center in the league.
Not getting my hopes up though.

How many titles do you figure Olynyk to be good for?

Ryen Russillo was on Mike and Mike this morning and he had some choice words about Cousins. He called him a losing player who'll get his numbers, but not impact wins and losses. He said that he's not focused over the course of the game. Used examples of him not getting a pass on offensive and then dogging it defensively for a few possessions. Or if he doesn't get a foul called in his favor he'll frustratingly foul someone on defense. He also spoke about Cousins going through 5 coaches and except for maybe one (Malone) he's had issues with all of them, including Karl.

If you've seen Cousins play, it's hard to disagree with his thoughts.

I'd trade Olynyk for Cousins, but you know that isn't the price.

Honestly, I don't care who it is, if the Celtics can find a way to acquire a legitimate star player (i.e. annual All-Star candidate) under 30, I'm all for it.

Having a star is always better than sitting here in no-man's land pinning hopes on role players and middle of the road picks.

Get the talent, then worry about managing personalities and building a supporting cast, etc.  If we really believe the Celts are this amazing historic franchise that's so well run, they'll figure it out.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Good points by RR .  These are things I have noticed about the crybaby also.

Goodluck if he goes to LA. All that attention will make things worse for him. Kobe will also prob give him the DHoward treatment.Lots of drama. Should be fun to see

I agree with the OP in a general sense.  I think his past behavior detracts sufficiently from his value to make it very unlikely a fair trade could be done.  I certainly would not trade 3 players and 4 picks as was the basis for a poll and thread.

If the Lakers get him for Randle + #2, that seems reasonable so there could be a reasonable package from the Celtics too.  I agree though that you can't just look at his numbers and ignore the behavior.  He will likely outgrow the problems at some point but I can't see him being all that much happier on the Celtics than he has been on the Kings (at least in the near term).
