They'd only have to wait 60 days if they signed him. You don't have to sign a rookie immediately after drafting them and teams often don't (well, and can't, technically).

Side note:

"The Lakers, furthermore, could not legally trade the No. 2 pick until after making the selection and introducing that player as a Laker, because teams are precluded from trading first-round picks in consecutive drafts and the Lakers' 2016 first-rounder is already owed to Philadelphia."

That just means the trade would be announced now but not become official until Thursday night or late.  Doesn't really change anything.  Remember our Pierce/KG deal was announced on draft night but didn't technically happen til mid-July due to contract/trade restrictions.

Right.

The Stepien Rule most often comes into play when a team wants to trade one or more picks mid-season but can't because it has already leveraged some of its future picks.

nothing is better than that #2 pick. If they trade DMC, their franchise center, they can easily use that pick to grab Okafor their next franchise center

Cousins and Love will be going to LA. Love is done more or less but why do you think Boston can even touch the Lakers cache? Okafor is better than anything the Celtics could ever trade hy himself. Let alone Okafor and Randle. That package rivals Wiggins. If they offer that this trade is done. Take off the green colored glasses and hop on board to Tank in 2016. Tank game needs to be very strong in anticipation for Simmons joining the team for the 2nd phase of the rebuilding process in 2017. Danny Ainge can't fail 3 years in a row.

For those saying we can't. I'd argue of course we can. We can offer:

Smart, Young, Bradley, Olynyk, #16, #33, 2016 BKN 1st, 2016 DAL 1st, 2016 MIN 1st (2 2nds), 2017 BKN/BOS Swap, 2018 BKN 1st & MEM 1st rounder

It just would have to be a massive over pay from our side to make it happen. It's never going to happen. We need to sit on our assets a longer and hope one of them ends up in the top 5 someday.

it's the Celts that can put together the best 3-team deals.

if Sac really wants more than two rookies & a bad contract, we are the ones with enough to go around.  For example, lets say Sac really wants Lawson as the centerpiece of this deal.  How does LA pry him loose from Denver and still give Sac the #2 pick?

Sure there are a couple teams that can beat us straight up, but realistically, we are the team they need to deal with to acquire the players they really want in return.

Well, technically, the #1 is better...

No, they really can't, not if the Lakers are willing to give up the #2.
I second that.

Unfortunately, if the Lakers are truly motivated to get DMC, we are going to come up short just based on that #2 pick.

Couldn't LA just trade Randle and 2 for Cousins and then SAC could trade 6 for Lawson? I understand that LA may actually have to make the pick for SAC. If Karl wants veterans, he has two valuable assets in Randle and presumably Okafor that he can trade himself or just keep them like I would. I guess that he could move Randle for Faried if he wanted to. I wouldn't.

League source tells Orlando Sentinel that Magic are not part of proposed 3-way trade that includes Nik Vucevic, contrary to ESPN's report.

1. Kings ownership won't allow Karl to move him. Smart for once on their part.

2. Why trade for #2 (Okafor) when they could draft WCS at #6 or even trade back to draft Turner. Plus Randle is damaged goods now.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Are you sure this doesn't mean that they would have to wait 60 days, like the Cavs did with Wiggins last year?

The Cavs had to wait because they actually signed Wiggins to a deal.  You can trade draft rights immediately.

If those Boogie tweets are for real ..

The stage is set

Kings and Boogie parting ways

At some points the owners have to just give up .....keep a coach ...what has it been like 6 coaches since Boogie came to Sac town.

I guess DA needs to decide if he is serious

Put up or move on

Wait to,draft a big.

We can only offer a better deal if Sacramento has interest in our picks.

It appears they are trying to get as good as possible as quickly as possible, so the odds of them flipping our prized draft picks to another team in exchange for rotation-quality players is fairly high if they do take our offer.
