If Boston offers you a couple good, young players and a bunch of draft picks including one or two that seem like locks for the top 10 themselves, which helps your rebuild more?
Well, if I'm a competent GM who knows anything about how good teams in the NBA are constructed, I go with the package that offers one or two substantial assets with star upside, rather than the pu pu platter.
Not to mention that there isn't a single pick in the Celtics' trove that "looks like a lock for the top 10" and the "good, young players" you're talking about could also fairly be described as "cost controlled role players with limited upside."
The Celtics do have good young players with upside. I'm sorry, a high draft pick won't alone will not convince a GM to give up their star player. They're usually looking for a treasure trove along with a top pick or player.
I agree. I think the only real asset we have, at this point, is Smart. And I highly doubt we would be willing to part with him at this point, so I would be surprised if we get into the top 10. That may not be a popular stance to take here, but I think it's probably true. I do hope we can slide up a few spots though if someone drops that we're coveting.
I think IT is an asset, he may have one of the best contracts in the league;which is also an asset ESPECIALLY to a team trying to sign FA's. Avery is an asset, he also has a good contract and is a legit 2 way player.
Anyways, I know I am in the minority but I hope Ainge gets Kristaps and Myles Turner. The East will be much more competitive next year and we probably won't make the playoffs, and we def won't win any championship . Ainge was not amused that we even made the playoffs this year and if he sees the winds turning I bet he would make the choice to sell high on guys like IT, AB, ET, and Sully/KO and do not resign Bass or Jonas and get rid of Gigi.
I just see that we have no star or all star on this team, I actually think we are the only team without one that made the playoffs; God knows all the lottery teams have at least one guy that is superstar potential/ franchise guy. We don't have a PP and we only have 1 young guy (smart) with high expectations and legit respect around the league. I mean we had a young squad of: Rondo,Tony Allen, Gerald Green(he was a high value prospect that early on reminded of Tmac), Al Jefferson, Perk plus a #5 pick and PP.
Now look at us, who cares if we sign Monroe/Harris what will we win? A series or maybe 2, but we won't win a championship or even probably get there.
Sorry I'm just frustrated because I can't for the hell of me see why we would compete for the middle of the NBA ala the Hawks.
