Gerald Wallace, Young, and Sullinger equal around $13 mil in contracts with Wallace entering his final year.

Danny could take back Frye and Ben Gordon from Orlando.

or

Carl Landry and Jason Thompson from Sacramento.

I'm not sure what package of picks and younger players we would have to put together with Wallace to get the 5th or 6th pick, but I know the resources are there.

I'd rather save the cap space to go after an actual good free agent rather than sacrifice that for a lottery pick.

We really don't need to go as far in as the 5th pick. Getting the 13th pick or lower would be fine, guarantees us a serviceable player with a chance for higher teir player to drop.

I would do the Orlando deal.  We trade Young and Sullinger for the #5, and Wallace for Frye and Gordon, taking on cap space from Orlando.  We draft Cauley-Stein with the #5 and trade up to Charlotte at the #9 with whatever they want and draft SF Johnson.  Starting lineup - Smart, Bradley, Stanley Johnson, Olynk, Cauley-Stein, with bench - IT, Gordon, Crowder, Frye/Jerebko, Zeller.  Decent playoff team now, possibly great team with more first round picks still coming to us in the future.

But I can't imagine Orlando thinks this is a good deal.  Maybe Sacramento would, but they are crazy.

agreed.  while the players available at 5 or 6 would be better prospects than the ones at 16, I'd prefer to use the cap space on good players rather than load the roster with crap contracts and get yet another draft pick to develop

FWIW, with the cap jumping next summer the "bad"ness of these contracts affects teams much less than it used to.

Exactly plus I really don't want to trade Young and hamstring our own FA efforts.

Those teams need upper level talent now not cap relief down the road.
