From what I'm understanding with everything I'm reading the Hornets are looking for a scoring shooting guard.  Everybody is trying to throw Bradley and the 16th for the 9th pick in the draft.  If I'm the Hornets I don't want Bradley, I'm wanting James Young.  The ceiling is being talked about is higher, plus he has same years left as Bradley and a lot less money.  As the Celtics we don't want to ruin what drove us to the playoffs, having a team that bound together and pushed.  It makes no sense for us to trade Bradley, and Ainge is been pretty clear Bradley is in our future.  The Celtics need to keep a veteran and now Bradley has turned into an NBA veteran, and has shown his love for Boston.  Honestly this is the only trade I'd make to move up the draft, because I think it makes the most sense, long term and short term.  Only if Willie Cauley Stein is available do I make this move.

Celtics - James Young and the 16th pick. (Most likely take Kelly Oubre who they like, or  R.J. Hunter who they've talked about)
For
Hornets - 9th pick.  (Willie Cauley Stein)

What I personally would like to see best case on draft night.

9th - Willie Cauley Stein
28th - Montrezl Harrell or Justin Anderson
33rd - Robert Upshaw or Rakeem Christmas
45th -  Nikola Milutinov to stash in Europe or trade this pick.

If we stay at 16th we draft  Kelly Oubre in hope he can become our starting small forward in the future.

Like that...but would trade #28 for a future and use #45 on Connaughton

#33 more valuable than #28

The only way I'd trade Bradley straight up for the 10th pick, is if WCS is still there which is pretty much not going to happen, OR if we have an agreement with another team, say the Knicks, that the 10th pick and the 16th pick gets us to 4.  And I'd only do that if Russell is still there at 4 somehow.

Maybe Sac would take the 10th and 16th pick for the 6th and WCS.  I don't like Stein that much but if Danny loves him and believes in him then giving up Bradley and 16th pick would probably be worth it.  Maybe even some second round picks in the next couple years could go.

Then we could maybe sign Monta Ellis to pick up the slack in offense from Bradley and have our 5 of the future.

Seems reasonable in terms of what you are offering the Hornets. I'm not sure that WCS will still be there at 9. Probably less than a 50% chance. I'm virtually certain that Justin Anderson won't be there at 28 and I don't like undersized power forwards like Harrell. Oubre is certainly reasonable if we stay at 16 and he lasts that long. If Ainge is worried that Upshaw may go at 31 or 32, the first two picks of the 2nd round, I have no problem taking him at 28 if they feel his personal issues can be managed or he could use 45 to move up two spots to 31.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Before finding about about Young's physical improvement, I would have been for this kind of trade, but between an undisclosed gm calling him a 'top 10 pick in this draft' and his questionable work ethic apparently being a thing of the past, I would hate to see him as just a throw in to move up.

I could see using him and the #28, but not sure that would be of much interest to Charlotte.

If Young were in this draft, he'd likely being going in the top 10, ahead of guys like Johnson, Booker, Kaminsky, Oubre, and maybe even Hezonja.  I don't see how you can trade him without having any idea of what he can become, especially if you are trading him with the 16th pick.  I don't thing you get good value out of that deal.

I have read some draft boards that think WCS will not go below six.

I don't think the 28th does it, because the players the Hornets like, won't be that far down.

WCS is a chance at 9.  I'm only doing a deal for the 9th if he's there personally.    Justin Anderson is my second choice with the 28th more, just if he's there.  Harrell I love his game.  I watched a lot of Louisville, and he's very impressive to watch.  Granted he's only 6'7 to 6'8 depending what your read but he plays bigger, specially with the over 7'2 wing span.  Plus I think his energy on our bench with a Crowder and IT, would be an amazing second unit.  I like your idea of using the 45th to move up a couple spots to take a chance on Upshaw.

You only get good value with this deal if WCS, is at the 9th spot.  He's what the Celtics are needing and, we can get another scorer as him, later or in a different draft.  It's harder to come by a legit center then it's a SG/SF.

I say the prime spot to be in is pick 12, it guarantees a promising player without having to rely on Kaminsky, Payne, and  Lyles getting picked ahead of 16.
