Nope

Rather have Sully

Seriously?!

You realize Thompson absolutely ate Sully up in the paint and on the boards in the playoffs, right?

One guy costs $2m, another one is asking for $15+m.

Yeah, I'd rather have Sullinger.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Agreed. Not saying that Sully is better, but considering the money, I would rather have the michelin man.
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

You do realize that Sully was coming back from injury and had little timing and was out of shape, right??  You do realize that Sully, once he got in some game shape, dropped 21 and 11 and Tristan ONLY had 5 and 3, right??????

I'd rather give him an offer sheet of 10-12 mil and see if Cleveland matches. I highly doubt that Cleveland would match that and if we bring in Monroe he could be the defender/shot blocker that we would need next to him.

seeing that Cleveland already offered him 4 years 13 per year, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that they would

Thank you smitty.

I think a portion of this  board really underrates how good a healthy sully is.

We really need to stop with the throwing "would you offer PlayerX the Max" at every player who's over 6'8" and has any semblance of skill.

A max contract should considered for three types of players:

1) Multi-time All-Stars who are still in (or yet to reach) their prime
2) Guys who, if signed, would immediately become the clear best player on your team
3) Guys who may not meet either of the above criteria, but who are extremely young with future superstar potential

Anybody who does not meet any of the above criteria should not, under any circumstances, be offered a max contract.

Nope -- Tristan Thompson is the type of player you add after you have already added 2-3 major (more important) pieces before him. Not the type of player you can build your team around. His offensive deficiencies make him difficult to build around and will cut off valuable paths to improving the team in the future. Not worth it.

A player who is more valuable to certain teams than other teams. Teams who are further along in their development than the Celtics are.

No.
Neither should the other teams as Thompson isn't worth the max in my eyes. There is still a lot of flaws in his game.

No
He's playing very well in the playoffs but he's
Not good enough and we have not seen him play well enough for a whole season to offer that much guaranteed money

Just from the playoffs I think a team overpays him

If throwing max contracts at players no where near that worth is the only way to get players to come to Boston, then the Celtics need to upgrade the roster through the draft and trades until they get to the point where it take enormous overpayments to get guys to sign.

Would not offer Thompson anything close to the max.

No...his game is too limited on offense, can't keep throwing around max contracts.
