You can combine with picks and I dont have high hopes.

If we want to sign a single FA we need to renounce it.

I think he is talking about the rondo trade exception that was created during his trade set to expire like in January

You can use it to absorb multiple salaries (i.e. two incoming players making a combined 12.9M or less) but you can't combine it with another TPE or outgoing salary so as to match one giant incoming salary.

However, it's possible to leverage it up.   You can use it to absorb the salary of a player making up to 12.9M.  Then turn around and trade that player's contract for up to 5M more plus you can then combine player salaries.

You can also use it to 'buy a pick'.  IF someone wants to dump a bad contract, and you are willing to eat that contract, you can absorb it without sending anything back -- for a price.  You would want a nice, valuable draft pick or two.

It can be a very, very useful tool.   Danny won't want to renounce either of his two big TPEs unless he absolutely has no choice but to drop under the cap.

Also to note is that the team with the TPE needs to be at the Cap in order to use it.

Joakim Noah would be on my list, along with Derrick Favors. Ty Lawson, Faried, Horford, Splitter, Ellis, & Pekovic would also be available just to name a few players.

Not to mention all the players we could use the TPE on via Sign & Trade!
