This is one thing I've never understood.  Yes the weather in Boston in the winter sucks!  But, wait for it, they play basketball during the winter so what does it matter!  They have most of the summer off to enjoy themselves where ever they desire.  That weather argument is getting old, fast!

give that guy a tommy pt.

when your talking about summer/fall the Cape & Islands are as nice as anywhere in the world.

take it from me, a vagabond surfer, from July - Sept you'd much rather be on Marthas Vineyard than in Malibu.  or anywhere in california for that matter.  weather is nicer, water warmer, people friendlier, beaches cleaner etc etc.

Players look at it differently though. Since basketball is a winter sport, you're going to be living wherever you play for a significant amount of time. If it's in a cold place like Boston, that's a strike against the team. It doesn't matter how nice it can be in the summer because players don't usually live in Boston during the offseason.

I think one also has to consider that if (or when) they play road games in the Mountains/Central/East side of the country there shall be snow and cold.

It would be pretty sweet if the C's could land a big name FA like Aldridge. It would go a long way to getting rid of that stigma of Boston not being a good FA destination. The one thing that took me by surprise was his age. I didn't realize LMA was 29. For some reason, I thought he was younger.

My guess as to why LA will sign with the Celts

- sold/moved out of house
- spotted in Logan airport.

- tired of battling in the west against top teams.
- celtics will also sign his friend Matthews
- prob liked what he saw of the Celts (progression) and feels he is one of the missing pieces
- Celtics can offer max

Toiling in the obscurity of the Pacific Northwest will do that.

Agreed.

And for an All Star UFA, landing in Boston without them giving up any assets to acquire you is ideal.

LA and Dallas are only in the conversation because media likes to drum up offseason clicks from their massive fan-bases.  Are you really going to go to LA, where they'll feature two rookies bigs alongside Kobe?  Disaster.  To Dallas and backup Dirk on their sinking ship?  Doubt it.

Now, if LMA comes east, he's instantly the best big in the conference.
If he comes to Boston and plays alongside IT, Smart et al in Brad's system -- he'll look like an MVP candidate.

This is the type of free agent that the Celtics would be wise to avoid. He's going to be 30 next year and is coming off injury. That being said he's a Texas guy. Who wouldn't want to make every last dollar possible? It just so happens that 2 out of the 3 Texas teams can afford him at the same price the Celtics can. There is no reason why he would pick cold Boston over warm San Antonio or Dallas with no state tax. Other than he doesn't want to compete in the West. If that part is the case then why would people want him here anyways? Do you think Larry Bird would have left the Celtics if the East was stacked out of its mind back then? Its a trick question. Guys like Bird, KC, McHale, Parish, Russell were gamers. Paul Pierce was a gamer. Danny Ainge was one as well, which is why I don't understand why he's going for someone that could be the next Wilkins signing. Is LMA washed up? No. But by year 3 he probably will be well on the back 9.

He's a Spur however. All that needs to happen is the official press conference. Why leave Portland if you were going anywhere else but home?

The only way the Celtics will sign free agents is by overpay to offset the taxes and the lack of endorsements and the craptastic weather.

Dude, just stop, please!

Other than the point you make about how crappy the weather is here during the winter, your point about how the Celts should stay away from LMA is absurd.

Aldridge is one of the best free agents and best power forwards in the league. Getting a player like him is a HUGE step in the right direction.

If you want to following losing teams, enjoy the Sixers!

ALDRIDGE YES

Love No.

Aldridge makes us a contender in the east. Love makes us the same team, with less money.

Agree about Aldridge. Disagree about Love.

What's your reasoning on why you don't want Love because like Aldridge, is one of the best players in the league.

I'm an LA guy and I tell all my fellow Bostonians here- avoid California (specifically Southern California). Weather is blazing hot even in the winter, lack of water, and ya have to deal with seeing people wear garbage colored tanks such as purple/yellow or red/blue everyday!

I love Boston. The air is so much cleaner.

As someone who's lived in Boston is whole life, I disagree.

The winters here are putrid. I'd love to live in LA if it means no winter.

Not saying player shouldn't sign in Boston because of the weather. Just saying I personally hate the winters and they have a very negative effect on me.

Not necessarily. There are jerks everywhere. New England is far from the exception to the rule.

Yup. He is not going to sign with a mess of a team like the knicks. Dont think he cares about the weather vs wanting to win it all.  Celtics have a nice chance to bring him in. Instantaneously we become 2nd or 3rd best team out of the east.  We play the cavs we did in the playoffs but now add LA, matthews , picks fas. We have a great chance to come out of the east

PLEASE SIGN HIM!!

I will no longer have to be a pro tanker if we do! Sign LMA, trade Smart/Olynyk/Sullinger/ all our picks for another great player and boom top 3 team in the Eastern Conference.

I would wager that M**** is a commonly recognized epithet throughout the lower 48, or at least east of the Mississippi.

As someone who has been around the country a bit and lived in about all the major areas, I would say Mass. and Southern California are neck and neck near the top in people being unfriendly on the street and day to day.  Not saying people are terrible or anything in these places but that's just the case.  I'm down in the south right now from Mass. and it's night and day.
