Any GREAT upgrade big .....no matter who or how he gets here ......let's face it

Is probably, going to cost us Smart .... :'(

Mustn't! I'd be willing to include our 16th pick, a few draft picks and probably Thomas for that caliber of a big man.

To me it's far more likely Sacramento gets Ty Lawson and Kenneth Faried to surround Demarcus Cousins than it is the Celtics get Lawson and Cousins. Sacramento has absolutely no reason to deal Cousins unless he demands a trade, and Sacramento has more upfront desirable assets to offer Denver than the Celtics have to offer Sacramento at the moment (They have an actual lottery pick as opposed to potential-but-not-for-sure lottery picks). Not to mention George Karl would love to get players that he has worked with before. Especially players who were not happy after Denver fired him.

http://larrybrownsports.com/basketball/denver-nuggets-fire-george-karl-kenneth-faried-and-ty-lawson-are-baffled/190725

Faried and Lawson wouldn't be ideal but they would be better than what Sacramento has now. Them, Cousins and Gay would make an entertaining core even if the west is a bloodbath. Denver is on the pathway to rebuilding, and getting Sacto's pick + young talent would help them build a better future.

I could see a deal like this going down:
Sacramento trades #6, Ben McLemore, a future top-10 protected pick, salary filler like Darren Collison, Jason Thompson (Denver could market those guys for more expirings and picks to teams trying to win).
Denver trades Lawson and Faried.

Yeah not exactly on topic but the point is thats more likely to happen than Cousins coming to Boston. The Celtics have a lot of assets to trade but there's no guarantee that those picks are going to be good.

Too much salary for Denver to take on. I predict a three way.

Sadly, I don't see any way that this happens.

Getting DeMarcus Cousins would be the tough part. I think we can swing the Lawson deal if we just smother Denver with picks and/or Isaiah Thomas. But nabbing DMC would take more than that. A lot more.

First off, I see no reason why SacTo would do this unless Boogie really wants out. Second, teams will have better assets to offer than us. If Cousins is on the block, Orlando can very well offer Harris, Vucevic and a pick for Cousins? that in itself is a much better deal than we can muster.

I would give myself a headbutt out of joy if we pull this off, but I don't think it's going to happen. There's just no enough to get DMC.

That's the problem right there. NYK would offer #4 and anyone else on the roster except Carmelo. LAL would probably offer #2. CHA could offer #9 and Big Al. MIL could offer Parker and Henson. MIN could offer a pick, Pekovic and Rubio. PHL could offer Embiid and Saric. UTA could offer Gobert and a pick or Exum.

I mean, I'm not saying any of these teams definitely would make such offers...but they're all at least plausible given Cousins' talent. And it would only take one of them to just blow out of the water anything we could offer. These "KO, Young, #16 and a BKN pick" types of offers need to be recognized as what they are, which is completely mediocre given the competitive landscape.

Yeah and what else can those teams offer? It's a starting point, but the Kings surely would want more. I mean Exum is seen more valuable than any of the Celtics young players?

Are you kidding?

Look at his stats and see if you still say that.

Look at Smart's stats? Exum still has potential.

I know that, I was just questioning the fact that Dante Exum is perceived more valuable than any of the Celtics young players. I mean Gobert sure, but Exum?

I don't know why SAC would trade Cousins without him demanding to be traded and causing problems. If he did request a trade, replacing him with Towns or Okafor makes more sense than Smart, Olynyk, and a bunch of so-so or unknown 1st round picks. Lawson would be an upgrade at point guard but it depends on what they want in return.

No on going after lawson

And no on us having a chance at cousins considering what we would have to give up to get him would cause us to go out of the playoff race and cousins would be in the same situation as he is in now
Also cousins has not indicated that he wanted out

Getting Cousins would make my year as a Celtics fan.

I'm so perplexed as to why we are so wed to Smart. I've asked multiple times what his upside is, and no one has responded. I love his energy, personality, etc... but he doesn't appear talented enough to be a factor on the offense end in this league. He just doesn't. And even if someone far more knowledgeable than I thought so, would it still be worth hanging onto him for dear life when other options could be available? You ship what you have to improve... and it appears he is what would be most coveted (thought I even doubt that among most NBA teams)

Its was his rookie year. He showed tons of potential. Why be so quick to drop him? Any PG replacement thats on the market is a mid tier player who's play hasnt worked out for their prior team.  Assuming were building for the future here. i dont see Smart going anywhere if it doesn't dramatically benefit the team

the only way Cousins makes it here is if he demands and trade and refuses to go anywhere else except Boston.

Wont Happen.
